Dr. Workman Hawkeyes 22 Cummings Diggers 14 Homeruns and four hit nights by Shaina Hodgson and Ashley Luca led the Hawkeyes to their first win of the season. This was a rescheduled game from June 24. Kayla Evans aided the cause with three singletons while Lindsay Kuhne chipped in with a pair - of hits. Dr. Workman - Hawkeyes 17 Cummings Backhoe 10 In a well played game'by both teams and for the second game in succession the Hawkeyes came away winners aided by the numerous walks issued by the Cummings pitchers. Ashley Lucas again led her troops with three hits including a home run while Matthew Garason had a couple. Scott Philip and Katie Ferguson did their part knocking in two runs each. Shaina Hodgson showed her true grit as she continued to play after spraining her ankle while call-up Patrick Wotten played a strong game. Swain Seeds Sluggers 16 Pineridge Sports 9 Swain's continued to play well getting two six run innings to carry them to theirninth straight win. Andrea Bonsma was the game star hitting a third inning home run that scored three runs while making some fine fielding out plays while playing first base. Other offensive leaders were Hayley Campbell with an off field triple and three runs each by Mark Carnaghan and Donnie Ellis. Tykes Nestleton Store Marlins § Blackstock Lions Cubs 4 Two runs in the final inning in a rare five inning game were just enough to give the Marlins the win and maintained their lead in the division standings. This game was the rainout game from .July 8. Cody James had a big game for Nestleton which included two doubles as well as knocking in the tying and winning runs. Ryan Dillon chipped in. Nestleton Store Marlins 8 . - Wotten's Hammerheads 6 The heat didn't seem to bother Nestleton as they won their second game of the week. The defense led the way in this one as Mercedes Weber con- tinued to pitch very well and struck out the side in the second inning while Cory Vandeweil made a fly ball out at first base and Ryan Dillon made some fine fielding plays. : Blackstock Lions Cubs 5 Overridge Flames 3 In another customary low georing ame the home run by Nathan Alpe an is strong three innings of pitching pushed the Cubs up into second place with two games remaining. Other defen- sive game stars were Tim Traquair who fielded well and Zachery Rockbrune who had a fine game playing first base. Megan Moore collected three base hits for the Cubs while birthday boy Jesse Taggart made mom proud by play- ing a strong game at catcher. Other hits for the Cubs came from the bats of Nathan Alpe and Thomas Prendergast. Intermediates Winter's Storm 23 Campbell Electric 13 Super Spud Reds 20 - Martyn Consulting 16 Two scoreless innings of pitching by Mark Morrison and Steven Blunden proved to be the difference as the Reds won again. At the plate Mark Merton had an excellent game with three hits which included two doubles and knocked in three runs. Ben Marshall also had two doubles as well as three RBIs. T-Ball Spanky's Haulage 20 Lishman's 14 | In this win Spanky's were led by the strong game of David Van Camp as this fiesty competitor collected four RBIs while scoring three himself. Tyler Anderson also had a strong batting game while Jessica Moore led the fielders with some fine play in the opening inning. Spanky's Haulage 24 Garden Centre 15 Spanky's got another solid effort from David Van Camp as the youngster col- lected two home runs. Eric Draper came to play and hit two round trippers with -the bases loaded both times while Robert Gatchell hit a triple. Snap On Tool Giants 20 Lishman's 17 'Snap On got home runs from Jordan Bishop. and Tyler Watson and strong defensive games from Sarah Matthews and Kylie MacLeod to win their fifth game of the year. | Seniors Marlin Travel 13 Mann's Cornhuskers 9 ~ In a rainout game from June Marlin's won their third game with a total team effort while Mann's were led by the home run by Jason Price. Mann's - Cornhusker's 10 Asselstine Yamaha 7 The win, by Mann's has now made this division into a four team race with one third of the season remaining. Defense led the way this time around as Steven Paradis made two great catches while Jason Price made three fly ball outs. Mites Turner's Green Giants 17 SpringGrove ~ Agrivaders 16 If you were to ask Spring Grove inter- im head coach John Hellingman his favorite game show the answer would definitely not be "Beat the Clock." Time didn't stand still and a great six run last inning came up one short as Turner's eked out the win as the open inning cur- few time had expired. This game was a see saw battle as pitchers on both teams had eight Ks each and each time pitched a scoreless inning. Coach Reminders 1. According to the chief statis- tician there are still 10 games that have not been played in the various divisions. These games are crucial to the respective standings and should be rescheduled as soon as possible. 2. If any of the above games have been played, please submit game reports so the games can be recorded. 3. Due to some scheduling prob- lems some divisions have had some of their fields changed for their tourna- ments. Coaches will be notified of the changes as soon as possible. 4. By now all teams should have submitted their team award winners to Sharon Winter in order that the winners names can be engraved on the trophies. The executive of Cartwright Minor Ball have decided to change the 1997 awards presentations from a one day event to presentations held on the tournament day.
