On Tuesday, Port visit- ed Aurora and played a strong game for an 8-5 win. The match was close until the sixth inning when Port scored three runs with an additional three in the seventh to take a commanding lead. The Mud Hens challenged strongly in the bottom of the seventh to score three runs of their own but good defense and strong pitch- ing were able to achieve the outs required for the win. Chad Venning pitched a complete game, striking out six, walking three and allowing eight hits and five earned runs. Hitters for the game were: Cameron - single, RBI; Empringham - walk, two - singles, RBI; Harris - sin- gle, home run, four RBI; Hebert - walk, three sin- gle; Best - RBI. : On Thursday night, our rivals from the south, the Oshawa Juniors visited Port Perry and Hebert put on a pitching clinic backed up by great defensive plays for a 2-1 win. Hebert struck out 11, walked two, allowed only two hits and one earned run. Hitters for the game were: Brad Bricknell - walk; Cory Bricknell - triple, RBI; Empringham two walks, single; Paul Goreski - walk, single; Harris - walk, RBI; McBride - sin- gle; Vander Slagt - single. The schedule" for next week will see Port Perry Juniors play the Oshawa Heat at Durham Fields on Monday at 8:30 and Bra- malea Juniors will be vis- iting the south diamond on Tuesday evening for an 8:30 p.m. start. . The Juniors are pres- ently preparing to play in the OASA Junior tourna- ment to be held in Smith Falls on Saturday, Aug. 9. They are also planning to attend the NAFA World Series Tournament to be held in Fargo, North Da- kota on Aug. 20 - 24. Sixty teams from across North America will be participat- ing in- this tournament. The team is presently put- ting together fundraising * projects to off-set the trav- el expenses for this trip. By Linda Ashton Port Perry Minor Hockey has made some changes for the upcoming year that we hope will make things go a little smoother to get the year started. Due to the considerable amount of time spent on registration we have decided to offer mail in registra- tion this year. For those of you who will be away on holidays or don't want to stand in line this will be the way to avoid a late fee which has gone up to $25 per player. If you were previously registered with PPMH you can take advantage of this. Forms are available at Pineridge Sports and in the box on the bulletin board at the arena. Regular registration will be held in the Community Hall (not the arena) on Thursday, Aug. 14 from 6-9 p.m., Friday, Aug. 15 from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 16 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Fees are $310 Major changes afoot for hockey league for one player, $575 for two players and $825 for three players. Payment can-be split into two pay- ments due Aug. 16 and Nov. 1, 1997. Remember if we do not have your first cheque by Aug. 16 you will be subject to the late fee. f you are registering a player for the first time with PPMH you must bring a photocopy of the play- er's birth certificate for proof of age to be sent in to the OMHA. We also need to see the player's health card for our file. If you are unable to register before Aug. 16 there will be a Saturday set aside in late September after power skating is over to do late registrations only. Late fee will be due at that time and registration will be closed as of that date. There will be absolutely no registration during Turnto Page 22 Season winds down for tiny T-ball players This past week marked the end of the season for the T-ball teams as well as the week when most teams got a lot of postponed games played to get the division standings back on track. In the T-ball division Spanky's Haulage took home all the hardware as they went undefeated in tourna- ment play to win the season finale. T-Ball As expected all the games were close contests with the two finalists not being decided until the final inning of the round robin portion of the tournament. Spanky's won all their games with a total team effort as they 'continued to hit with authority. Spanky's game stars included Ryan Kaminski and his home run in game two. Amber McGriskin, Rebecca Jensen and David Van Camp with perfect plate appearances in game one. In the final Eric Draper proved his MVP value hitting two key round trippers to get his team into the lead. Other final game fine performances were turned in by Robert Gatchell who continued his year long spirited play and Zachery Grove who did mom and dad proud. Snap On got to the finals by virtue of their two wins and was led by the strong hitting of Dana McGeoghan and Tyler Watson throughout the tournament as well as some fine fielding by Kylie MacLeod and Maxim Heard. Li%man's played well thanks to the excellent play of Tyler Gaylord who seemed to score a bunch of runs for his team. Other Lishman game stars were Tyler James with his excellent running game and Travis Mann who had a three for three game at the plate. Analda's help to the final did not materialize but the team continued to get fine all-round play from Isaac Foote as well as some timely hitting from Mark Kylan and strong defensive play from Andrew Bullock and Brad Thompson. T-Ball Final Standings Spanky's Haulage - nine wins, one loss: Snap On Tool - six wins, four losses; Analda Garden Centre - four | wins, six losses; Lishman's - one win, nine losses.
