Intermediate Tournament The tournament was a dif- ferent story as Winter's lost their opening game to Super Spud and needed a third game win over Campbell's for a chance at the double win. Campbell's started strong in game one beating Martyns 20- 16. They waited until the open inning when they scored eight runs to take a 17-13 lead into Campbell's last at bat. Winters held the opposition to just three runs and escaped with a one run victory. Craig Asselstine and Lawrence MacDonald led Campbells with a pair of dou- bles each while Stuart Cochrane scored four runs. Stephen Delore headed the Winter's attack with a home run and scored three times while Megan MacArthur con- tributed with three runs as well. This set the stage for the final with Campbells facing Winters in back to back games to determine the 1997 tourna- ment winner. Five runs in the sixth proved to be decisive for Campbells as four RBIs led to the runs. From there the defense held and limited Winters to just one run over the final two innings to take the title by the score of 15-10. Port hosts Uxbridge Thursday 13-year-old shoots ace at Wolf Run Happy birthda By Chris Hall Port Perry Star A Port Perry teen received a surprise birthday gift on July 15 when he shot a hole-in- one at a Janetville golf course. Trevor Lance, who turned 13 that same day, was playing the seventh hole -- nicknamed "Old Rail" -- at Wolf Run when he teed up at the reds with three friends. ~ Using a seven iron, the teen hit a perfect shot and watched his ball roll on the green and into the cup 115 yards away. "It was fun and I guess it was sort of a lucky shot," said Trevor about the shot he made in only his second round of golf in 1997. While he's played for three years, he admits that he has only golfed maybe a dozen times in his young life. This tournament was the 75th anniversary for the OASA and each player was presented with an impressive crest commem- orating the occasion as Junior B finalists for the province of Ontario. Even though the team was short handed, each player and coach can be congratulat- ed on a great team effort that never gave up and always remained in the game. It was a fun-filled day in spite of the heat, and at the end of the day the players were feeling good about themselves and sat- isfied with the effort they put forth as individuals and as a team. In league play, the team has been getting strong pitching from Venning and Hebert. On Wednesday, Port lost to the excellent men's _ team from Claremont by only one run, and prior to that had a four point 6-0 over the Bramalea Juniors. The only game this week will be on Thursday night when the Uxbridge Senior team visits Port for an 8:30 p.m. start. Over the last 10 days, the team has been working hard on a fundraising pro- gram to help offset expens- es for their trip to Fargo, North Dakota. There will be 104 qualifying teams participating in this World Series starting Aug. 20.
