As a result of the investigation Martin Kaiser, 29, of Scarborough has been charged with 14 counts of bank robbery; 13 counts of using and imi- tation firearm; and three counts of wearing a dis- guise while committing an indictable offense. Matt Phoenix, 20, was one of almost 100 com- petitors at the Ontario 4- H Inter-County Dairy Judging Competition last month. Placing third, Matt won.-a one week all- cxpenses paid trip to the World Dairy Expo, which takes place in Madison, Wisconsin later this month. At the world's largest dairy show, Matt will be judging cattle again as he competes against other 4- H members from across Canada and the US. Matt, a 4-H member for the past eight years, had to judge nine classes of dairy cattle at the. provincial competition, and also had to write a test on judging dairy ani- mals. Another local member, Mike Metcalfe of the Durham East 4-H Club, placed second in the com- petition. The top four winners received an all- expenses paid trip to the World Dairy Expo. When Matt returns home from the U.S. show, he will resume farming again alongside his father, Keith, on their Greenbank farm, Dappledale Holsteins. In another competition, Matt's cousin, 19-year old Carl Phoenix, was the 4- H Grand Champion at the Central Ontario Gencor Challenge. Formerly known as the Silver Dollar Challenge, the competi- tion, which is always well attended, has been run- . ning for over 20 years and saw more than 120 young men and women compete last month. To achieve his victory, Carl had to write tests on 4-H, artificial insemina- tion and dairy manage- ment. In the show ring he went on to become the champion showman, and showed the champion calf. For all his work and expertise, Carl earned the Grand Champion title and a Timex watch.
