Police say that in both cases, drugs that could prove harmful if taken were stolen. The first incident, the theft of a knapsack, occurred last Wednesday (Oct. 8) at G.L. Roberts school on Chaleur Avenue in Oshawa. Inside it is a Epinephrine needle, commonly known as a Bee Sting Pen. The needle is required by people who are allergic to bee stings. Police warn that if injected into another per- son the drug could cause a serious physical reaction, and possibly induce a coma. The second incident, also on Wednesday, saw a bag containing a quantity of Endocet pills was stolen from a car parked on Brock St. West in Uxbridge. The narcotic can cause drowsiness, depression and, if taken in sufficient quantity, cardiac arrest, police said. Police are asking that anyone with information on either' of these thefts, or anyone knowing where the stolen items are, to contact them as soon as possible. If the medicine is found it should be turned into the local police and no attempts be made to open or use them as they can be dangerous, particularly to children. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Durham Regional police at (905) 579-1520 or Crime Stoppers at (905) 436-TIPS. Officials report scabies cases in schools There has been more than 15 cases of scabies reported at schools here this fall, according to the Durham Region Health Department. Scabies is a conta- gious skin condition caused by mites, which burrow into the skin to lay eggs. It can be spread through contact with the skin of a per- son who has scabies or from the use of clothing, bedding or towels which may be infested. The mites are diffi- cult to see; often the only visible symptoms are blisters or small red lines on the skin. There will be a considerable amount of itching, espe- cially at night, and it may take up to six weeks after infection ment at your local phar- before these signs are macy. noticeable.
