"Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" 26- PORT PERRY STAR - Wednesday, October 15, 1997 Legionnaires come from behind to beat Uxbridge Late rally pushes Port past rivals for 5-4 win The Legionnaires opened the season with a come from behind 5-4 victory over arch rivals Uxbridge. Uxbridge opened the scoring 4-1/2 minutes into the game. Port Perry retaliated two minutes later on a nifty play. Scoring for Port was Trevor Lance assisted by Jeff Tarbotton. Less than a minute later we went up 2-1 on a nice shot by Joey Lane. Uxbridge tied it up with- In seconds to end the period. The second period saw Uxbridge come out flying with two quick goals. The. Port boys didn't quit and came back with three unanswered goals. First oal b Spencer hurchill assisted by Mark Duncan. Second goal by Jeff Tarbotton on a nice shot assisted by Trevor Lance and the third by Tyler Lee. The Port goalies were strong fRrguEtions the game especially late in the game. The defense made some good defen- sive stops to secure the win. The second game of the season saw Prince Edward County come to visit the Legionnaires. Port came out flying scor- ing three first period goals. The first by Chris cKitterick assisted by Spencer Churchill and ark Duncan. The sec- ond goal was a nifty by Jeff Tarbotton assisted by Stevie MacLennan, The third goal was scored by Spencer assisted by Derek Bond and Mike Thompson. P.E.C. came out quick- [yin the second to close the gap, but Trevor Lance threaded the nee- dle to stymie any chance of P.E.C. coming back. This was a hard fought game with both teams drawing numerous penalties. Congratulations to Gary Geer, Ed Teno and | Ralph McCullough on getting the boys off to a quick start. . : . On Monday, Oct. 6 the Legionnaires Peewee one team travelled to Peterborough. Peterborough jumped out to a two goal lead with a first and early second period goal. Port Perry came back with two second period goals Just minutes apart oth scored by Spencer Churchill and getting two assists each were Derek Bond and Mike Thompson. Peterborough stormed back with two unan- swered third period goals to win 4-2. Friday Legionnaires obourg Port Perry came to Cobourg looking to beat one of their arch rivals but came up short bein outskated, outshot an outchecked by what looked like a more rested Cobourg squad Port Perry opened the scoring midway through the first on a goal by Jeff Tarbotton with assists goihg to Kevin Robins and Jamie Smith. Then it was all Cobourg who scored six straight goals. Two in the first and three in the second as they con- tinually peppered the Legionnaire goalies. Chet Martin started Goreski's down Manvers 4-2 out the game with a quick goal. Geof Simpson had an out- standing game with two goals and one assist. Jordon Froats rounded out the scoring in the third period.
