There will be a lull in the hockey schedule on Nov. 2 when the second annual Skate-A-Thon is held to raise money for the community. Karl Durham grabs a goal, assist in Taylor Fuels' win Sharks come up short In 3-2 loss to the Aces By Dean Van Camp Special to The Star Taylor Fuels Aces 3 vs. Van & Truck World Sharks 2 Karl Durham got things rolling this Sunday morning for the Aces with an assist going to Jarrett Harman. The Sharks answered back however, with Rick Campbell scoring for the Sharks with assists to Marvin Stevenson and Keijo Kinnunen. Duane Bronsen put the Sharks ahead 2-1 at the end of the second period with an assist awarded "to Jay Adam. Steve Churchill then came back to tie the game for the Aces in the 3rd period with an assist to Bill Weisflock. When it looked like the score would remain tied, Ken Little found the net with :02 to go in the game. The assists went to Karl Durham and Dave Roth. Compton Cable TV Comets 4 vs. Cedar Creek Con. Clippers 4 Rick Hope drew first blood in this one with helpers from John Harman and Bruce Gracie. The comets then got on the board not much later when John Mackey found the back of the net with a assist by Ron Compton. The Clippers then scored again to regain the lead by Jim Duncan from John Harman and Jamie Taylor. Derek Fitzgerald then . scored on an unassisted effort to put the Clippers up 3-1. That lead would not last through as the comets scored three quick goals by John Mackey, Dave Jackson and Greg Warriner. The assists were handed out to Ron Compton, John Mackey, Dave Jackson and Bill Foote. Rick Hope then broke the Comets lead to tie it up with only 9 seconds left. Assists on that goal are from Steve Dunn and Richie Lefort. Pizza Delight Roosters 1 vs. J&D Carpentry Hawks 5 This was one of the more not so close games this morning. Todd Healey and Sean Fewer scored the first two goals of the game, both for the Hawks with assists to Brad Coppins, Todd Healey and Rick Sakanashi. Dave Dickson than scored for the Roosters to avoid being shutout. Assists on that were given to Paul Goreski and Mike Driscoll. Greg Fitzgerald then put the Hawks up 3-1 from Todd Healey, and Sean Fewer scored his second from Brad Coppins. Todd Healy then finished off this game with his 4th point and assists awarded to Sean Fewer and Dennis Lycett. Monsma Electric Chargers 1 vs. Pineridge Sports Wolves 2 This was an unusually low scoring game compared to some of the others. The scoring didn't start until the 2nd period when Jamie Menzies got the Wolves on the board with an unassisted effort. Under a minute later, Bill Bridge scored the second for the Wolves with assists going to Paul Stanley and Phil Lalonde. Rob Scott then scored for the Chargers from Mike McQuade and Bob Collins but that would be as close as it got. Ken Harman and Don Card but played exceptionally well between the pipes. Turn to Page 21 Port takes retaliatory penalties; two weekend losses MoJacks let two slip by after third period collapses By John B.McClelland Port Perry Star Missed scoring chances and untimely penalties cost the Port Perry ModJacks dearly in two Junior C contests over the weekend. After playing their best game of the season a week ago in an 8-3 tri- umph over the Uxbridge Bruins, the Modacks had been hoping to ride that crest as they tan- gled with the Bobcaygeon Bullets and Campbellford Rebels. But it was not to be as the Bullets scored five times in the third period to dump the ModJacks 7-6 on Friday' night, and the Rebels overcame a 2-1 third period deficit Sunday night to hand the ModJacks a 5-3 loss at the Scugog Arena. Needless to say, head coach Brad Menzies was not terribly pleased that his team had blown third period leads on two straight occasions. And he was even less pleased that the the goal that put the Rebels up 4-3 in the final minute of Sunday's came with a MoJack in the penalty box. ~ In fact, he said that if his players continue to take retaliatory penalties, they can expect to catch some time riding the pine. "They won't h play- ing," he stated flatly. Menzies went on to say that it's up to him as head coach to instill a sense of discipline in his players, and one way to get the message through is to bench the guilty parties. "Taking a 2-1 lead into 'the final frame, the Modacks seemed to be guilty of some sloppy work in their own zone when Ian Pettey tied things at the mid-point. And Barry Forth was sitting out a roughing penalty when the vis- tors went ahead 3-2 at 14:05. Jeff Clarke and Ryan Odette did the scorin in the first and secon periods for the ModJacks. Menzies said after the game his biggest fear in two close losses back to back is that it will turn into a real slump of four or five defeats -- something that could be disastrous - in the Central Junior C loop this season as points are tough to get. In Bobcaygeon Friday night against the vastly improved Bullets, the MoJacks after led 2-0 after the first on goals by Odette and Dwight Gingerich, and had a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes as Clarke and Adam Bonneveld did the scoring. But a shorthanded marker by the Bullets early in the third seemed to really take the wind out of the Modacks and they went on to tally four more enroute to a 7-6 victory. * Tom Chambers and Odette with his second of the game replied for the ModJacks in the third period in which the Bullets outshot them 23-16. In fact, the Bullets had a 53-40 margin in game-shots. Rob Simms and Brian Nash chipped in with two assists each. SLAPSHOTS: Modacks record after the two weekend losses is two wins, one draw and four defeats. Little Britain Merchants and Georgina Ice are on top of the league standings with eight points each. The Merchants sport a sparkling record of four wins and one tie so far defeating Uxbridge 4-1 on Friday and Georgina 9-7 the next night. The Merchants see action at home Saturday against the Georgina Ice and on Sunday host Uxbridge at Oakwood with both games at 7 p.m. The Modacks next home game is this com- ing Sunday night (Oct. 26) with the Ice the opposition for a 7 p.m. faceoff. Goreski's take tie, loss over weekend On Saturday, Oct. 18, the Goreski Lakeside Recreation Peewee B team host- ed Fenelon Falls. The Port Perry defence, Tony Boomsa, Ryan Hnatko, Wes Langmaid, John Daruwala, and Devon Howsam had their work cut out for them any the fast skating Fenelon team. Alex Nicolau and Scott Honey in goal made many good saves but Port Perry couldn't get on the scoreboard. The game ended in a 4-0 win for Fenelon Falls. The following day the boys travelled to Cobourg. Port Perry came out flying and Justin Shinn scored the first goal three minutes into the game with Jeff Talmey assisting. Geoff Simpson put out a great effort for his line with Chet Martin scoring and Jessie Mullins picking up the assist. Two minutes after that, Devon Howsam scored with Justin Shinn assisting. The next two goals in the first period were scored by Cobourg. The second period remained scoreless despite good efforts from both teams. Pat Lewis, along with his line mates Jesse Mischtian and Tyler Weisflock showed good hustle throughout the game. Cobourg scored late in the third making it a 3-3 tie.
