POLICE REPORT Home, car thefts continue in Scugog Durham Regional Police are continuing their investi- gations into break-ins and vehicle thefts during the past holiday weekend. Police report that thieves entered a Major St. residence sometime between Oct. 10 to 13 while the occupants were away. They gained entry by prying a lock and kicking in a door on the west side of the home. It was also noticed that a light bulb located above the door was smashed. Thieves rummage through a few rooms before taking a Sears microwave valued at $250 and a quantity of jew- elry, including earrings, necklaces and bracelets, valued at over $1,000, say police. Stolen stereo Police are also investigating a break-in at a Poplar Park Crescent home which occurred sometime overnight between Oct. 12 and 13. Possibly using a screwdriver, thieves pried open a northeast window to enter the residence. Upon gaining entry, thieves removed a Yamaha stereo and Sony CD player from the living room; a VCR and jewelry, including gold watches, from the upstairs and a circular saw from the basement. Police say the saw was left by a window and a large speaker from the stereo was found in the backyard by a rear patio. Police say a gray, two-door 1987 Pontiac Monte Carlo was stolen from a Water St. parking lot between 8 and 9 p.m. The owner of the vehicle says that the vehicle was locked, and no keys were inside at the time of the theft. Shortly after 9 p.m. the car was found on Ritson Rd, a half-mile from the Ninth Concession of Scugog, where it was burning. The car, valued at $4,000, contained a baby's crib, some tools and a CD player at the time of the theft. Police say the owner of a red 1985 Chev S-10 4X4 left the vehicle parked on the Scugog Quarter Line, 1,500 metres south of Hwy. 7A because of flat tire. The owner left the truck because a special wrench was needed to remove nuts on the tire. The vehicle, which has license plates reading 2STBRN, is valued at $6,000 say police. Attempted theft The owner of a green 1994 Chev S-10 Blazer had a close call recently when thieves attempted to steal the vehicle.
