Shirley Kohler, manager at the Reach Rd. pound, said a couple of hounds have been left at the shel- ter, but that does not con- stitute a problem. "There are rumors that hunters are abandoning their dogs, but sometimes they just lose them," she said. "I don't really believe that too many hunters would try and lose their dogs after the cost of pur- chasing them and the time it takes to train them. "We recently had two skinny hounds dropped off - one was so weak he couldn't walk -- but the owner did come looking for them," she added. The dogs' owner wouldn't pay the fee to have them released so they are still at the centre. Ms Kohler said dogs can become separated from their masters in the bush, and are eventually found by residents here, and wind up at the pound. "On average we may have 10 hunting dogs come to the centre each year but most are equipped with radio collars or have their name and number on their AIDS committee seeks The AIDS Committee of Durham has opportu- nities for volunteers in the following positions: a Street Outreach - Teams of volunteers headed by a staff person provide HIV/AIDS pre- vention information and materials to youth on the » SUE RCRD.§ l= rsh alls 241 QUEEN STREET, PORT PERRY © 985-1965 Clothing & gifts for HIM & HER Christmas List \. - 3 Gloves, Mitts, Touques - 3 Sweatshirts 3 Dress Shirts & Ties - 3 Suits & Sport Jackets - 3 Nightgowns & Housecoats & Jewellery & Scarves - 3 Vests & Coats - 3 Stocking Stuffers & Candles & Holders & Floral Arrangements 3 Baskets & Treasures The staff at Henshall's will be happy to assist you Free Mulled Apple Cider ~ Gift Wrapping May You Have A Safe And Happy Holiday Season! y, collar...most of the ones we get are taken good care of, it's just the odd one that isn't."
