In order to become a registered real estate per- son in Ontario it is neces- sary to complete three compulsory phases. Phase 1 is a correspondence course offered every month through the Ontario Real Estate Association which provides an introduction to the field and outlines the requirements for reg- istration as a salesperson. Phase 2 and 3 are offered at Durham College. Phase 2 consists of 60 hours of classroom time covering the technical aspects of real estate bro- kerage while Phase 3 pro- vides practical application of earlier studies over 90 workshop hours. After passing through the educational program the participant enters into an "articling" period for two more years, under the | supervision of a licensed real estate broker. During the "articling" period three additional 40 hour class- room courses must be com- pleted - Real Property Law, Principles of Appraisal and Principles of Mortgage Financing. Phase 2 begins at Durham College in January and again in March, and Phase 3 is offered in January, February and April. Real Property Law begins Jan. 26; Principles of Appraisal, Jan. 14, and Principles of Mortgage Financing, Jan. 26. The college also offers a Property Management course Feb. 9 to 20."
