Won't getting back to regular routines be wonderful? Sympathy of the community is extended to former resident Joe Bradburn of Port Perry on the passing of his wife Annie after a lengthy stay in hospital. Sympathy to her son Roy and Linda Bradburn and their fami- ly Matt and Amanda of Blackstock and to her daughters Joan and Len Chamberland and their family of Renfrew and Marion Dunning of Ottawa. The funeral was held on Monday from the Wagg Funeral Chapel of Port Perry. Annie was a very gracious lady who was a won- derful wife, mother and friend. On Monday, Dec. 29 Kathleen Watts hosted a Taylor family dinner. Those present were Anson Taylor of Scarborough, Joyce Taylor and Danielle, Betty-Jane Short and Kirsten, all of this area, Gordon Redican and sons Peter and Stephen of Lindsay. Carolyn Redican con- tinues to be a patient in Oshawa General Hospital. - This holiday time was most memorable for David and Kathleen Petrie. They motored to Iowa where 'they spent Christmas with Glenda and Roger Hackman and family of Osage, Iowa. On Saturday, Dec. 27 they attended the wedding of their son David Petrie and Tonyia Hackman in Osage. Also present at the wedding were Alan and Ann Marie Petrie and Kathleen (who acted as a flower girl) from Brampton and Andrew and Jodi Petrie and their son Christopher (who was the ring bearer) from Enniskillen. David and Tonyia make their home in Las Vegas where they are both employed. On Tuesday, Dec. 30 Teresa Berkers of Caesarea and Irene Hoffman of Blackstock were dinner guests of Kathleen Watts before attending the card game. Irene will soon be off to Florida where we wish her a happy hol- iday. Richard and Pam Gunter of Winnipeg spent Christmas holi- days with his parents, Blake and Jessie Gunter. During the season they were joined by the other members of the family - Jack Gunter and friend from Osgoode, Susan and Lorne Bagel of Whitby and Kathy and Neil McLaughlin and family of Blackstock. Merrill and Jean Van Camp entertained the Percy Van Camp family along with Aunt Susan Saywell of Oshawa on New weather h McLaughlin and girls were Friday evening dinner guests of Merrill and Jean. All are invited to the annual New Year Levee of MPP John O'Toole which will be held on Sunday, Jan. 11 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Courtice Recreation Complex. On New Year's Day Linda and Lawrence McLaughlin of Nestleton and Anson Taylor of Scarborough had dinner and a pleasant visit at the home of Kathleen Watts. The annual Mountjoy family gathering was held at the Blackstock Recreation Complex on New Year's Day with a fine crowd attending. Following the noon meal the afternoon is spent enjoying skating at the rink. Much visiting is also enjoyed and the day concludes with - another meal in the evening. elped rin There were 13 tables at the Tuesday evening card party with the following winners: Doris Hill, Merrill Van Camp, Jaan Sutcliffe, Ruby Smith, Pat Van Dam, Don Thompson and Helen Dorrell. Lucky draws were won by Don Thompson, Reid Harness, Lorraine Geer, George Mathewson, Ruby Smith and Helen Dorrell. On this Tuesday a pot luck supper will be held at 6 p.m: followed by the regular card party at 8 p.m. Gerald and Joyce Kelly host- ed a New Year's Day dinner at their farm home in Bobcaygeon. Guests were Jim and Ella Walker, Audrey Gilmour all of the Lindsay area, Jethro and Eleanor Staples, Dale and Anita Davis all of the Bobcaygeon area, Cora Hogg of Fenelon Falls, Elizabeth and Peter Peeters, Courtney, Kathryn and Graham of Omemee, Elaine Kelly of Kitchener, Esther Kelly and Francis Peeters of Fesserton. Evening dinner guests were Catherine and Rae Junkin of Bobcaygeon, and Mark Junkin who is a student at Guelph University. St. John's News By Colin Beal Despite atrocious weather, The First Eucharist of 1998, g in the New Year celebrated by Father Hugh on the morning of New Year's Day, |. was well attended. One would hardly describe it as a large congregation but, considering that many people had a late night and that New Year's Day 1s not a religious feast in most people's minds, it was very encouraging. This New Year's celebration was a "First" at St. John's (according to comments made by long-time members of the congregation) and the turnout augurs well for future years." Sunday morning included an anthem and lots of favorite hymns. The children of the Church School helped Father Hugh bring the Three Kings to the Crib. 'Make sure to return Church service this coming Sunday, Jan. 11 will be held in Epsom Church at 9:30 a.m. Committees are asked to get their reports turned in as soon as possible in order to have them ready for the annual meeting which will be held following ser- vice on Jan. 15.There will be a Memorial Service in Columbus United Church on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. for Rev. John Hill who was a former minister on this charge. York Presbyterial U.C.W. Day Apart will be held on Monday, Jan. 12 at Wesley-Vandorf United Church starting at 9:30 a.m. Any ladies who would like to go, please contact Elva. The next meeting of the Welcome Congratulations to Clay Dempsey son of Bruce and Nancy Dempsey of Greenbank, who was married to Kimberly Shaw of Ajax in Greenbank United Church on Dec. 31 by Rev. Ross.Carson. The reception was held at the Admiral Inn in Lindsay. The newlyweds are now cruising in the Caribbean and upon their return will reside east of Sunderland. Clay is the grandson of Stan and Ruth Foster. The girls held their coffee and wird. 1 arty before church on Sunday. It was in the form of a birthday party for everyone to celebrate their birthday for the new year, A big welcome to our new U.C.W. will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 1 p.m. in Epsom Church. Roll Call is the word "NEW." All ladies are most wel- come for dessert and devotions. = The next meeting of Utica Hall Board will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Utica Hall. Utica Memory Hall Board will hold their annual meeting and election of members for 1998 on Sunday, Jan. 18 at 1 p.m. and are looking to appoint mem- bers from the Epsom area which, at the present time, does not have a representative. This hall was built by the people of Epsom and Bethesda as well as the vol- unteers from the Utica area. It's your hall, you should have a say by Doris Hill organist Jackie Crawford. We = i also had Dave Kight and Bonnie Fant Ribich to provide music. Our regular choir is taking a few weeks off. Their next prac- tice be Jan. 22. A beautiful card of thanks was received from Linda Hunter thanking everyone for their sup- your committee reports ASAP in its operation. Meetings are held monthly and although the pay is nil, your ideas would be welcome. Epsom School Council is look- ing for two community repre- sentatives. The position'is a one year term and they meet month- to our new organist port during her years as organ- ist. There will be a Sunday School meeting Jan. 12. They need someone to plan and coordinate the classes. If you are interested in the Sunday School, please try to attend. The January euchre will be in the hall this Friday, Jan. 9. Everyone welcome. Crosier is now a resident of Versa Care Nursing Home in Uxbridge and would be happy to have anyone visit her there. Recent visitors with Ruth Ashton were Allan and Joyce Ashton of Oakwood, Bob and Sandra Ludyka and children of Mount Forest and Lois Bushell. On New Year's Day, Keith and Faye Ashton and Robert were luncheon guests with Stella and Don Asling. A former neigh- bor, Jean Millman of Bobcaygeon visited on Saturday. Elva Kerry has been busy entertaining over the holidays. On Boxing Day she had her fam- ily, on Sunday the 28th the Stearman families were guests and on Friday the Kerry families had their get together there.
