"A Family Tradition for 132 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, January 6, 1998 - 3 Poor conditions scratch opening for Ice Palace Poor weather condi- 'tions have delayed the opening of the Port Perry Kinsmen Ice Palace skat- ing rink. The popular outdoor rink and shelter, located in Palmer Park on the shore of Lake Scugog, was to be celebrated with an official opening this coming Saturday (Jan. 10). But that's been put off for now, said club rep- resentative Dave Goldberg. "We have not erected the enclosure yet... and we're not happy with the lake conditions," Mr. Goldberg said Monday morning, when the return of balmy temper- atures turned the ice sur- face slushy and wet. Saturday was to mark the return of the Ice Palace after a year's absence. The Kinsmen decided to abandon the project last winter after continued attacks by van- dals on the shelter. Mr. Goldberg said, however. that it's hoped the rink will be in place soon -- providing winter is in place soon. "The Ice Palace will be undertaken if the weath- er conditions improve," he said. New Year's baby welcomed by family S------ CHRIS HALL/PORT PERRY STAR married for three years. Joining the two in their celebrations were their other two children, Shyenne, 2, and eight-year-old Ashleigh, who is Mr. Arnold's daughter. Officials at the local hospital were expecting more than just the one New Year's Baby, but the expected births were delayed, and families and doctors continued to wait. Port Perry's Arnold family rang in 1998 with a new addition just minutes after Jan. 1 arrived. Proud mother Jennifer and father Mike arrived at the Port Perry site of the North Durham Health Services just before 11 p.m. on Dec. 31, and Cassandra Renee was born at approximately 12:40 a.m. The eight-pound, two ounce newborn was the second child for the local couple, who have been yr X ar Al 1 L AT 4% ul | GD SES WW . ; NE WRT 1 D GENT EE ATE i Tal sr ar 1! ss a al LI =x 3 | TN Stock up on | , MRE t brand name basics and save!
