"A Family Tradition for 132 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, January 13, 1998 - 9 Robbery suspect has charges held over for hearing this month A 20-year old Scugog Township man made two appearances in court last week, and will be back in court later this month. Last Wednesday James Wells, who faces numerous charges in relation to armed robberies here and an escape attempt in Oshawa, had one set of charges set over to Jan. 26 for pre-trial. These charges are aggravated assault, assaulting police and fail- ing to appear, stemming from a court house incident before Christmas in which the Manchester resident is alleged to have slugged a police officer while being escorted to a cdurt room in Oshawa. A suspect was picked up by police in a nearby field several hours later. Wells is also facing three charges of robbery, three of possession of a danger- ous weapon, and one of threatening death and wearing a disguise while committing a crime. They stem from rob- beries at a Manchester donut shop last year, in which a female teen-aged clerk was threatened by a man with a knife. Wells appeared for a pre-trial on these charges Jan. 9, and the case was put over for trial on May 25. Wells is being held in custody.
