Port's Bunnies duel to a 6-6 draw with Paris at Richmond Hill tourney The Port Perry Bunnies ringette team sponsored by Air Durham Heating & A/C took part in their first tour- nament this past weekend in Richmond Hill. Port Perry's first game was against an evenly matched Paris, Ontario team. This matchup can only be described as the most excit- ing game played this season by our Bunnies. The entire game was a see-saw battle as one team would go ahead by a single goal one minute then the other team would come back to tie it the next. Christine Cooper scored for the team on a beautiful pass from Benny Sobczak. Then Chad DeCosta was able to get the ring away from the opposition and nailed a shot into the net to end the first period tied with Paris. The final period contin- ued with Vanessa Wilde in net for Port Perry with strong defensive playing by Dean Sobczak. A very determined Morgan Barr got herself a goal after refusing to give up the ring after digging for it in the - corner. Timothy Edwards worked equally hard get- ting control of the ring and getting several shots away on net for his efforts. With less than a minute remain- . ing on the clock and Port Perry down by one goal . Melissa Armstrong had the parents on their feet as she got a breakaway and scored with only 21 seconds left in the game. Final score was 6-6. The teams next oppo- nents were the always pow- erful Mississauga Bunnies. Kevin Blackney played exceptionally well this game getting the ring up and across the blue line allowing his team to get several shots on net. Lindsay McIntosh made a nice pass that allowed Melissa Perry to skate into the oppositions end and get a solid shot on net. However Mississauga's goalie was tough to beat and just wasn't going to allow Port Perry to score against her. Logan Jeffrey was able to tip a forward pass over the blue line which resulted in Port Perry getting control of the ring. At the half way ark; in the first period Melissa Armstrong was finally able to score for Port Perry. In the final period Melissa Armstrong scored her second goal on a bril- liant pass from Christopher Hill. With the clock showing less than a minute remain- ing in the game Scott Urquhart displayed some fancy skating moves and was able to get the ring over to Christine Cooper who popped it into the short side of the next for the teams third and final goal of the game. Final score was 12-3 for the other guys. In the final game of the day our Bunnies faced the hosting Richmond Hill team. Samantha MacDonald and Jessica Joncas provided strong defensive positions pre- venting the opponents on several occasions from shooting on their goalie. Kellie Quantrill was just as busy for her team in stay- ing with the Richmond Hill ring carrier and forcing them to give up the ring. The nicest play of the game came late in the third. A very determined Shawna MacMaster con- trolled the ring and waited for the perfect opportunity to feed Christopher Hill as he skat- ed across the blue line. Christopher Hill had a breakaway with the much taller and stronger Richmond Hill defence clos- ing in. However this was Christopher's moment in - it across to a i when 'tracked down a pass directly half the net staring Game over -- 3-2 visitors. words after the game, saying the team "lacked intensity", "With nine th d be ready 'e were lucky es.
