There's nothing soft about the way Chambers plays, and on this night, anyway, his work ethic seemed to be infectious. The Bruins pulled Little in the final minute but Casey Van Schagen killed their hopes when he slammed one into the empty cage with 24 sec- onds left. Van Schagen was able to corral a rebound off the boards after Ryan Odette just missed from the right side. The ModJacks opened a two-goal lead in the first period with Seth Gray net- ting both. Jeff Clarke helped on the first and Adam Bonneveld set up LesentS the second. Gray turned in a strong attacking game and easily could have nailed a hat trick as he had several fine chances. . The ModJacks struggled for stretches in the second period, especially deep in their own zone where they had trouble clearing the puck in the face of a strong Bruin forecheck. Joe Ranich cut the mar- JD FISHING gin to 2-1 at 11:28, just one second after the ModJacks had killed a penalty. Two minutes later, Bonneveld made it 3-1 with a crucial goal that seemed to take the starch out of the Bruins who had been pressing at every turn. Bonneveld steamed down the left wing and fired a slapper from the top of the face-off circle & ARCHERY 1998 Pickerel ""ICE FISHIN G DERBY January 1° to February 28" 0 1st Prize $200 + 2nd Prize $100 + 3ref Prize $75 NN \ BONUS PRIZE $50.00 per week for largest fish by length JOE'S and Scugog Island. Odette and blue- liner Rob Murphy drew the assists. Midway through the final frame, the Bruins Mike Norris put his team back in the game with a goal off a low shot from 30 feet in front. And overtime seemed a distinct possibility at 17:32 when the Bruins knotted the score at three's with Mike Horsley doing the damage, again after ModJacks were unable to clear their zone. Unlike many ModJack- Bruin encounters, this was a clean, well-played game as both squads stuck to hockey. With Jeff Mackie serv- ing the first of a two-game suspension, Matt Betts went the distance in goal and turned in a solid per- formance. He could not be faulted for the three that got by him, and responded well in a pressure situation considering his limited playing time the last few weeks. Betts was on the end of a rather chintzy call late in the second when he was nicked for a delay-of-game minor. He was attempting to sweep a puck away with the big stick and his arm hit the post knocking the net off its pegs. It certainly did not appear as if he had deliberately dis-lodged the cage. The ModJacks were nursing a 3-1 lead at the time and luckily the penal- ty killers held the fort. SLAPSHOTS: MoJack captain Scott Heasman was in uniform for Saturday's game, taking a couple of brief shifts in the first period. But the injured knee obviously is not ready yet to let him return. And Matt Glen remains on the shelf as well with a shoulder injury. Netminder Jeff Mackie will be eligible to return to the line-up this week after sitting out a two-game sus- pension. The ModJacks have lost four of their last five games, three of them by a single goal. After Wednesday's game in Little Britain, the ModJacks next outing is this coming Sunday night when they host Uxbridge at 7 p.m. The Modacks have five games remaining in their schedule --one with Little Britain, one with Uxbridge and three with Georgina. Their fate could very well be decided the last week- end of the schedule when they go back-to-back with Georgina Feb.7 and 8. The Davi eve Shae JD Fishing & k Archery
