Donna Marlow, Ollie Pehlemann and Kelly Wilson told the committee Monday morning the present playground equip- ment at the school is obsolete, does not meet safety requirements, and in fact poses a safety threat for younger chil- One youngster suffered a broken nose from a fall, and there have been others needing stitches, they said Equipment will cost $20,000 New equipment -- including slides and climbers -- will cost $20,000. The parents' committee has already raised $3,000 specifically for that purpose, and there are plans under way fer a major fundraising dance and silent auction to be held at Trillium Trails late in April. The delegation pointed out to com- mittee members that the Durham Board of Education will not provide money for playground equipment, even if it's on school grounds. Scugog Mayor Doug Moffatt told the delegation that township budgets this year are extremely tight, and there will be less money to spend in 1998 than there was just a couple of years ago. But he said the township can "up- front" money for the equipment so that it can be bought and installed as soon as possible. The parents' group can then work on fundraising to repay all or a large portion of the loan. Committee members noted that there 1s no municipal park in Prince Albert. The school grounds are used by residents of the hamlet as a community park. Township loan will help playground fund to reach goal By John B. McClelland dren. But the major fundraiser will be the dance and silent auction in April. The delegation expressed hopes the entire community will attend this function to support the project.
