10- PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, February 10, 1998 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" High school students put to the test in Techno Challenge The Durham Industry/Education Council for the Advancement of Science and Technology (D.I.E.C.A.S.T.) will host the fourth annual TECHNO Challenge on Friday, Feb. 13 at Lviv Hall (St. George's Ukrainian Catholic Hall), 592 Albert Street at Jackson Street, Oshawa. TECHNO Challenge '98 is a full day event that provides students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in math, science and technology to problem solve "design and make activ- ities." Thirty school teams of three inter- mediate students each will compete to see who can successfully complete this year's challenge, which is kept secret until the day of the competition. Previous challenges included building towers and platforms from recycled material, constructing capapults and creating "egg drop" parachutes. - This year's TECHNO Challenge includes a second competition in April. The second challenge is an in-school activity that encourages participation of the entire class in designing and building a mousetrap-powered racing car.
