J EEMISEE------ Suma "A Family Tradition for 132 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, February 10, 1998 - 19 Fletcher Bons The annual Robert Fletcher Memorial Mixed Bonspiel was held on Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Blackstock Arena. This long running bon- spiel is held in the memory of Bob Fletcher, avery avid- and enthusiastic curler who was instrumen- tal in achieving artificial ice in the local arena just prior to his very sudden and untimely death nearly 20 years ago. The day fea- tured much excellent curl- ing and of course warm fel- lowship. President Jim Weir wel- comed everyone to the din- ner after which David Shearman said Grace. Following dinner, Cam Porter thanked the three ladies of the curling club who had prepared and served dinner. The Junior Farmers team was pre- sented with consolation prizes. Pat and Diana Fletcher, Bob's widow and daughter, thanked the club for continuing this bonspiel and presented the trophy to winners. With 46 points - David and Tracy Vernest, Grant and Heather McLaughlin. In second place with 45 points was the team of Gerald and Joyce Kelly, Leanne and Bev Goslin. In third place was the rink of Cameron Porter, David Shearman, Talya Moore and Donna Kyte and in fourth place was Craig and Margo Larmer, Kristen and Brian Desislet. Kristen had ear- lier won the draw to the button 50/50 draw. The Fletcher family was thanked for their generous support of this event. The evening concluded with the announcements of the purchasers of the many items in the Silent Auction. This had created much interest throughout the day. A speedy recovery is wished for Blair Martyn who underwent surgery in a Toronto hospital last week. Merrill and Jean Van Camp were mid-week din- ner guests of Dale and Anita Davis of Bobcaygeon. Harvey and Joan Graham enjoyed a week's piel encoura Blackstock holiday in Florida return- ing home last Saturday evening. There were 16-1/2 tables at the weekly euchre party with the following winners: Ray Staples with a score of 92, Verna Draper, Mary Cannon, May Shortridge, Gord Harrison, John Archer and Minnie Taylor. Lucky draws were won by Mary Henderson, Alden Hubbard, Les Johnston, Muriel Butson, Sarah Brunton and Milt Lacey. All are welcome at the Skating Club Valentine Loonie Sale and Bake Table at the arena this Wednesday, Feb. 11 from 4 to 8 p.m. during the regular skating. Come and watch the young folk for a while and support them in this sale.
