It was a close first period as Port jumped out to a 1-0 lead then Niagara scored two quick ones, before Port tied it at two before the end of the period. Steve Wygerde got Port rolling as he scored both goals, with Mike LeFort, Sean Jeffrey and Chris Skerratt picking up the assists. In the second Port really cranked it up as they scored four goals for a command- ing 6-3 lead after two peri- ods. Mark Blakley notched a pair with singles going to Matt MacMaster and Chris Skerratt. Picking up assists on these goals were Matt Skerratt, Braden Tarbotton, Dean Van Camp, Grant Hooker and Jason Whitworth. Port really showed their offence was in high gear as they added four more goals in the third period for a convincing 10-3 win. Dave Justynski, Jason Whitworth, Matt Skerratt and Braden Tarbotton scored the goals for Port, with assists going to Grant Hooker, Chris Skerratt and Matt MacMaster. Chris Monsma was between the pipes for Port and made some fine saves early in the game to record the win. Game two was played on Feb. 22 in Niagara-on- the-Lake and it wasn't as easy as the previous night as Port edged out Niagara by a score of 5-3. Port was ahead 4-1 late in the game but Niagara managed two quick goals in the last minute with their goalie out before Port scored in the empty net for the win. Jason Whitworth led Port with the hat trick with Dave Justynski and Mike LeFort chipping in singles. These scorers had a lot of helpers as Matt MacMaster, Braden Tarbotton, Steve Wygerde, Matt Skerratt, Sean Jeffrey, Mark Blakley and Grant Hooker picked up assists. Jeff Wiggins played in net for Port and made some tough saves to pre- serve the win. Game three, back in Niagara on Feb. 25 was another affair. Port carried the play through the whole game but were unable to run up the score as in game one. In the third Port com- pletely shut down the Niagara offence with strong forechecking and diligent defence to record the 3-2 win and a three-game series sweep. Chris Monsma drew the assign- ment in net for this game and made some fine saves. Port now moves on to the semi-finals where they will be up against Stouffville. Final registration dates are Sunday, March 8 from 1:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 4 from 8 a.m. to noon (Assessment Day) taking place at the Blackstock Arena. This year various levels of softball, youth lob ball, and hard ball will be avail- eligible to able for youths aged four to 19. For youths ages four (as of May 1) to 15, softball play will be available. Youths ages 15 to 19 are youth lob ball division. Hard ball will be available for ages nine to 18. We are also proud that there is a registration rate freeze at the 1997 level and a creation of a new hat. division based on num- bers. Registration fees are $50 for softball and youth lob ball; hard ball regis- tration is $75, family three or more is $130. All play- ers will be outfitted with a team shirt and hat. Those playing hardball will be outfitted with team pants and socks in addi- tion to a team shirt and play in the Scugog Soccer Club playing competitive ball Scugog enters Under 13 Rep team The Scugog Soccer Club is entering a boys Under 13 Rep team in the Central Soccer League 'A' Division this year. This means stepping up a league so the team will now be classified as "com- petitive." This will provide the opportunity for our boys to play against better teams from all over the province and elsewhere. Eleven and 12-year-olds seriously con- sidering trying out for this team, in May, are welcome to join indoor practices begin- ning Wednesday, March 11. Practices will be at the S.A.
