"A Family Tradition for 132 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, March 3, 1998 - 3 Division 26 headquarters moved from Sunderland Continued from page 1 deployment that much easier." When asked about the persistent rumours that seem to Pop up every year about the closure of one of the three northern substations, the Inspector shrugged it off. "There's been rumours that they were going to shut down a station as soon as it opened," he said with a laugh. "We can't work on rumours. Right now we're doing what's best and, in time, with our large population growth, there may be a time when we need to open up a large station, but there's no time frame for that. That would take years of planning and we haven't even looked at that." While she agrees that there is a need for a station that can meet the needs of the three northern town- ships, Uxbridge Mayor Gerri-Lynn Mayor O'Connor o'Connor says that her biggest concern is ensuring that the people in her township receive the best policing available to them. "Building a large station up here is not in the budget -- that's a long-term goal -- and my understanding and knowl- edge of the three buildings (that DRPS use) is that the Port Perry location would be easier to work out of than Uxbridge. There is no room in the Uxbridge sta- tion and what they want can be achieved in the Port Perry station right now," she said, explaining that the building in her town is cramped while Port has a roomy - HEHE - a area with a useable basement. "My main concern 1s that we have ade- quate policing for the township; will there be an office we can go to and speak to an officer if we desire or require? "I will fight as the mayor adamantly to have a station in Chuck Mercier Uxbridge. We have over 200 square miles of area here and while there isn't a lot of miles between Uxbridge and Port Perry I still think we need a station here. Where administration works out of is no concern of mine." Scugog Mayor Doug Moffatt, as well as Regional Coucillor Ken Gadsden could not be reached for comment. 1s metime during fthe d eives took f five S This Port Perry area fisherman dropped his half ton truck and trailer through the ice near the boat launch on Saturday while removing his fishing hut and was towed out. As of Monday, five huts remained on the ice, and they will be monitored by ministry officials for their removal. Mr. Fisher said the owners of these huts could each face fines of up to $185 a day after the deadline and if left too long will face charges and appearance in court. "We have to take a hard line and give few warnings, because a few people could ruin it for everyone else," Mr. Fisher said. Due to the mild conditions this past winter, during January 11 huts went through the ice and the final two huts were removed last week. ® men's robes sweaters co-ordinates ior Xeldo ® selected men's, women's and kids outerwear styles ® selected childrens holiday and fall fashions ® women's selected clearance - winter boots* OFF ® all women's clearance co-ordinates by Tabi, Conrad C, Mac & jac and more ® all ladies nightwear and robes** ® men's shits by Arrow, Gant and Ralph Lauren CHAPS ® all mens and womens sweaters ® all kids, men's and women's 'excluding Sorels "excluding new spring arrivals HH Ht Men's Dockers - wrinkle free twills Reg. 64.95 - 74.95 SALE 54° - 64> La fats HH ON fO« CTE RS p PLUS GREAT SPRING SPECIALS!!*+* 4 20% OFF Men's & Women's Fashions by POINT ZERO SALE ENDS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11 SINC AG) HHH »~ on all new fashions by GUESS men's, women's, kids SIN IO) orKids Port Perry 98: 2301 ! and Style Si EY LR SIVIETa IS) ON ole Ta fl a eT RVR TE oN: de vd 168 Queen St, -8334 Service On ------- = ASH @ [V[=T=10 IS) ON alo] 1 af Ta a VAS HEY oH
