Call for information 985-1296 _-- A ---- < Police report Motorists escape serious injury in Simcoe St. crash Durham Regional Police officers and other emergency workers on the scene were amazed Sunday after a Port Perry woman survived an accident that saw her car nearly torn in half. Police report that a 32-year-old Simcoe St. woman was driving north to Port Perry on Simcoe St, just south of the Fourth Line of Scugog, around 10:50 a.m. on Sunday (March 22) when she lost control of her 1990 Plymouth Acclaim. The woman lost control when she hit the shoulder of the road, say police. She crossed the centre line and slid into oncoming traffic driver's side first. Her car was hit by a 67-year-old Haliburton man who was southbound in his 1993 Buick Regal, say police. The impact of the collision just behind the Acclaim's door caused the entire rear section to sheer back, almost cut- ting the car in two. The Buick flipped over onto its roof and slid down the road for some dis- tance, add police. The driver of a 1994 Jetta, who had been travelling north behind the Acclaim swerved into the east ditch to avoid the collision. As well, a 1992 Chev Cavalier fol- lowing the Buick, driven by an Oshawa lady, went into the west ditch to avoid the accident. In all, five people were taken to Port Perry hospital, say police, adding that no one received serious injury. The Plymouth Acclaim and the Buick Regal were both destroyed in the acci- dent. A 32-year-old Port Perry woman has been charged with careless driving. Girls are charged Police have arrested two 14-year-old girls after more than $1,500 worth of property was stolen from a Shanley St. home sometime during the day on March 10. Entering through an unlocked door, suspects stole approximately 40 CDs, jewelry including rings, and some per- fume and makeup. A Port Perry girl and a Saintfield girl have each been charged with one count of possession of stolen property. They are scheduled to appear in an Oshawa court on April 24. Electronics stolen Police are asking for the public's help in gathering information about a theft which occurred at a North St. home sometime between March 18 and 22. Durham Regional Police say that thieves pried open a west-side basement window to gain access to the home. Inside, they stole VCRs, a camcorder, computer equipment and the keys to an RV which was sitting in the driveway. A passerby has told officials that a woman was seen carrying out a large plastic container to the end of the drive- way at the home around 9 p.m. on March 21. Police believe that some of the stolen items were taken from the home in large plastic Rubbermaid containers, which would match the description of the box the woman was carrying. She is described as being about 5°57, with a black-hooded jacket. Anyone with any information is asked to call Crime Stoppers or Durham Regional Police. Missing truck After finishing a meal at a popular Queen St. restaurant a man returned outside to find his truck missing, say Durham Regional Police. Police say that a man parked his grey 1989 Chev Blazer at the rear of 151 Queen St. He was in the eatery between 5 p.m and 7:30 p.m. on March 21 and when he left he noticed his vehi- cle was missing. The vehicle, which is valued at $6,000, had a number of personal items inside and contained a green firefight- ers' emergency response light on the dash.
