They came out on the wrong end of a five-game series which seen their. opposition, Woolwich, win in four games. The local Bantams also went to the provincial final last year as well, but lost in the last round. Pizza Delight wins "A" title with a 3-1 victory over the Clippers Roosters clip Cedar Creek By Jon Sanders Special to The Star "D" Championship Harrison Fuels Flames 3 J&D Carpentry Hawks 2 The opening game of the day was the "D" Championship between the Flames and the Hawks. This was a close game but in the end it was the Flames who were able to call them- selves "D" Champions as they were victorious by a score of 3-2. The Flames opened the scoring in the second period with a goal from Jeff Kroonenburg. The assist on this goal went to Brian Stevenson, who played a solid game on defense with many blocked shots in the game. The Hawks answered back one minute later when Dennis Lycett found the net after being set up by Dave Burnett and Rick Sakanashi. This game did not stay tied for long however, as the Flames quickly regained their lead when Brian Samis scored from Mark Decosta. But once again the Hawks responded with a goal courtesy of Dave Burnett who found the back of the net from the slot assisted by Todd Healey. Midway through the third period the game winning goal was provided by Mark Decosta who went upstairs with the backhand from out front after taking a nice pass from Brian Samis. M.V.P. honors went to the Flames goalie Doug MacSween who made many key saves in this game, Flames forward Mark Decosta and Hawks defenceman Scott Heard. "C" Championship Compton Cable TV Comets 3 Taylor Fuels Aces 2 In the second game of the day which was the "C" Championship, overtime was necessary to decide a winner between the Comets and the Aces and it was the Comets who pre- vailed in the extra period by a 3-2 score. The Comets got on the board first when Dave Jackson scored after being left wide open in front of the Aces net. The assists went to Bill Foote and Darcy Milligan. In the third period the Aces evened things up when Ken Little beat the Comets goalie from Ivan Geer. Minutes later it appeared that the Aces would go ahead for good in this game when Wayne Taylor found the net after receiving passes from Jarrett Harman and Ken Davison but the Comets fought hard to tie this game and with 18 seconds remaining in the final period the Comets tied things up with an unas- sisted goal from John Mackey to send this game into overtime. In the extra period John Mackey continued to attack offensively as he scored the game winner 24 seconds in with a wrist shot on the blocker side. The assist went to Darcy Milligan. M.V.P. awards were given to John Moore who played a solid game in the Comets nets, Dave Jackson for his defensive efforts, and John Mackey who was the hero in both regulation and overtime on forward. "Toilet Bowl" Championship Ball Callery Senators 3 for the SHL championship Van & Truck World Sharks 0 In the "Toilet Bowl" Championship this battle of the titans was won by the Senators who flushed the lowly Sharks by a score of 3-0. The Senators opened the scoring in the second period when Brian Till found the net after taking a pass from Brett Laycoe. The Senators extended their lead to 2-0 when Lee Wilbur put in his first of two goals as he beat the Sharks goalie with a backhand after being set up by Brian Till and Brett Laycoe. Late in the third period the Senators put this game away when Lee Wilbur found the empty net for his second goal of the game assisted by Brett Laycoe who had three assists in this game and Brian Till who was named the M.V.P. on forward with one goal and two assists. Brian Norton picked up the award for his defensive efforts for the Senators and Bill Eade was named the most valuable goalie as he made many key saves for the Sharks but no offense was provided thanks to the many big saves made by the Senators goalie Troy Glazier who picked up the shutout to help the Senators earn the title of Toilet Bowl Champions. "B" Championship Pineridge Sports Wolves 4 Monsma Electric Chargers 3 Following the excitement of the bowl game was the "B" Championship and this was a very good game which was won by the Wolves who were vic- torious over the Chargers by a 4-3 Turn to Page 25 Defeated Van Camp 8-2 In the Novice House League finals Port Perry Printing took revenge over Van Camp Contracting for winning the regular season, by going unde- feated in the playoffs and winning the final game 8- 2. The game was close for the first period with both goalies, Fraser Gibson and Kris Barchuk, making some great saves, but the big blue machine got into gear and walked away with the game. Cody Steranka played another incredibly strong game with just five goals; Hugh Allward helped the cause with two goals and two assists; Steve Larmer had a single marker with an assist and Brett Pope and Thomas Sobczak had two assists each. Well done Port Perry Printing. Jack Bruton and Taylor Muir scored for the Van Camp Contracting team who should be congratu- lated for even making it to the "A" Championship as they had to tie Port Perry Printing the week before to earn a shot at the Cup. In the "B" Championship Haugens Port Printing team crowned NHL champs pulled off its second con- secutive upset over C o m p t o n Communications; first they beat Compton to keep them out of the A Final then they beat them to earn the "B" final. Alex Grncarovski, Darren Dekoning, and Ray Petch all scored two goals in this 6-2 game. While Pattrick Madder had both replies for Compton, Joe McCoy picked up two assists with Ryan Samis adding a sin- gle. At the end of the season three players are selected for each team based upon the Most Sportsmanlike, Most Dedicated and Most Improved. The 1997-98 Esso Award winners for Novice House League are: Most Sportsmanlike - Grant Roberts, Robert Forderer, Steve Larmer and Ben Deboer.
