The Community Nursing Home held its annual volunteers appreci- ation tea, and awarded Oscars to some of the peo- ple who give of their time to make life a little brighter for residents there. Kim Mitchell, volunteer co-ordinator for Community Nursing Home, said that the idea of Oscars for "Best Performance by a Volunteer" struck organiz- ers of the tea as a fun one. Volunteers at the nurs- ing home represent a cross- section of area residents. Award winners came from every age, and walk of life. The nursing home needs these volunteers to help in every part of home activi- ties, from trips to fundrais- ing and in-house activities. Some of the award win- ners recognized Wednesday volunteered at first because they had a relative in the home, then Just stayed on to help over the years.
