"A Family Tradition for 132 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, April 21, 1998 - 9 THEA smiles oh Scugog Borelians, Choral Society each win three prestigious awards By Richard Brew Special to the Perry Star Once again this year our local theatre groups, The Borelians and The Scugog Choral Society, came away big winners at the Annual A.C. T.C.O. Thea Awards. The annual gala was held last Saturday evening at the Sheraton Parkway Hotel. The local groups captured three Thea Awards each. The Borelians won for Best Presentation of a Drama, Ten Lost Years, and will now perform it at The Theatre Ontario Awards in Owen Sound this May. Ten Lost Years also received Theas for Best Drama Ensemble, and David Lepp received his award for his myriad of characterizations. Receiving nominations were Dave Ellis for Director of a Drama, Bunty Webb for Female Supporting Role, Jarrett Hunter for Outstanding Newcomer and Jeremy Smith, who was nominat- ed for outstanding art work in Set Design and use of lights in Lighting Design. Also nominated twice was Scugog Choral Society's Lisa Young, who played the title role in Kiss Me Kate. Lisa won a Thea for her velvet voice and received a nomination for Best Female in a Leading Role. J. Charles Savage received his Thea for Best Male in a Supporting Role, and Barbara Quellette rounded out the awards by being named Best Musical Director. "Kiss Me Kate" also received nominations for Wayne and Alison Henry, Choreography, and Janet Green for Best Female in a Supporting Role. The talent in and around Scugog is amazing as many patrons know, so next time these talented groups stage a show, go out and see our award win- ning groups.
