Sgt. Ken Hudson of Port's 26 Division said that in light of the recent vandalism and mischief sprees in the Cartwright area, police have investigated problems and have cracked down on those causing trouble. "We have instituted a zero -tolerance policy in the Blackstock area because of the number of complaints we have received from residents there," he said yesterday. "Youths are becoming a big problem there damaging property and commit- ting offences, so we are urging anyone who witnesses anything to call us. There will be no warnings there; we will lay charges. Things are starting to get a bit stupid there." Here's a rundown of recent events: 26 Division responds to numerous complaints 0 Friday night (May 15) Durham Police kicked arrested a 17-year-old Blackstock male who allegedly tossed a Jug of urine against the porch floor and front door of an Old Scugog Rd. resi- dence near the four-corners of Blackstock. Police say at approximately 2:50 a.m. on May 13 someone threw a bottle of what appeared to be urine at home. 0 On the afternoon of May 15, a 17- year-old male was arrested by police after he was seen riding in the back of a pickup truck on Hwy. 7A. The youth has been charged with one count of mischief under $5,000 and will appear in court on June 19 0 On Saturday (May 16) Durham Police were called back to the same Old Scugog Rd. home around 12:45 a.m. after someone tossed a Roman candle at the home. Upon hearing the explosion, the homeowners looked out and saw a young man running away that they recognized. A 16-year-old Blackstock boy was found at his home around 10 a.m. that morning and charged with one count of mischief under $5,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 26. a Police also arrested and charged two young adults on May 15 in relation to an investigation into the vandalism of a food booth at the Blackstock fajr- grounds. Durham Police have arrested an 18- year-old View Lake man and an 18- year-old Blackstock woman after she allegedly backed a 1982 Pontiac Parisenne, owned by the male, into the booth on April 13 causing damage. Both will appear in a Whitby court on July 24, where they each answer to one count of failure to report an acci- n Blackstock swee The woman was 17 at the time of the incident and will be charged as a young offender, say police. 0 Durham Police also cracked down on vehicles in the downtown area of Blackstock over the past weekend, handing out a total of nine charges. On May 15 police charged one motorist with having an illegal drivers' license. The following day Durham Police doled out five charges as they fined two people for trespassing on private prop- erty; one person for not wearing a seat- belt under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and two people under the Liquor License Act including one charge of having open alcohol in a vehicle and one for drinking underage. On May 18 Durham Police fined two vehicle owners' for having faulty equip- ment on vehicles and laid one similar dent. charge the following day as well. Police report that a 16- year-old male was the lone occupant of a 16-foot fiber- glass boat with a 35-horse- power motor and was trav- elling at full throttle on Lake Scugog when he hit a wake made by a passing boat and was thrown over- board. The boat continued at full power toward the shoreline on Washago Bay Lane. Owners of the cot- tage watched as the boat smashed through a 12-foot dock, went airborne and crashed into a 12-foot alu- minum boat that was tied nearby. It continued to the shoreline where it spun in Regional circles until it was reached and shut off, police say. Two young boys also witnessed the incident and located the driver in the water by looking through binoculars. They retrieved him from the lake, add police. Ambulance and fire department crews arrived on scene shortly after and the 16-year-old male was taken to hospital in Port Perry, where he was treat- ed for a sore wrist. The docked boat -- a Sterling boat with a 15- horsepower motor -- was damaged on the top frame' had a few rivets loosened, and was split, police say. he parents of the youth have made arrange- ments with the cottage owners to repair the dock and boat, police say. No charges were laid in the incident.
