| "A Family Tradition for 132 Years" re Sr ree CHRIS HALL / PORT PERRY STAR ROCKING AWAY: Students at R.H. Cornish Public School were busy serving up a good time once again this year when they recently held Cafe Paris in the school gymnasium. In an effort to raise funds to buy a rocking chair for the New Life Centre at the Port Perry hospital, French Immersion students served up juice and cookies to their peers. Checking out the new rocker is, from left, Emily Smith, nurse Alice Lee, Hailey Fontyn, Owen Pett, and Kirstie Gilmour. A Shirley Rd. resident is out more than $50,000 in heavy equipment after thieves stole a dump truck and trailer from his driveway. Durham Police say that sometime between 9:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m overnight on May 11-12, thieves took a white one- tonne dump truck with a red box from the resident's driveway. The truck had the business name Blonge Contracting on the side, police say. with a dual tandem axle which was black with white stripes. Resting on the trailer was a orange and brown 1987 Case Bobcat with a bucket and fully enelosed cab. Blonge Contracting was labeled on the arm of the bucket and on the back of the machine, police say. The total amount of equipment stolen exceeds $50,000, police say. Car lost, found A car which was stolen from a Queen St. parking lot in Port Perry was discov- ered later at a gas station near Oshawa, report Durham Regional Police. A gold 1991 Plymouth Acclaim, which disappeared from the parking lot behind the Post Office in Port sometime overnight between May 10-11, was later found at a Suny's gas bar on Taunton Rd. The ignition was punched on the car and a male was seen running from the vehicle, say police. The owner of the car was called about 3 a.m. that morning to confirm the own- ership of the vehicle, which was impound- ed until it could be picked up. A gym bag with a quantity of tools was also found in the vehicle, say police, including a screwdriver, 20-inch crowbar and some bolt cutters; all were seized by Durham Police. Two of the four Peterborough-area suspects have been interviewed, police say, but no charges have been laid. One of the four suspects does have a criminal record, add police. Student charged A 14-year-old R.H.Cornish Public School student faces five charges after clothing was stolen from two classmates. Durham Police say that the youth will face charges after complaints were $50,000 in equipment stolen from Shirley Road address Attached to the truck was a trailer made that the female had stolen articles of clothing from two other students. Upon investigating the complaint on May 6, police arrived at the home to find the suspect and her mother in an argument over the stolen clothing. During the incident police witnessed the girl strike her mother, Durham Police say. The 14-year-old female will appear in youth court in Oshawa on June 19 and faces one count of assault; two counts of theft under $5,000; and two counts of possession of stolen property. Thieves foiled A neighbor of a Scugog Island resident stopped three thieves from stealing var- ious goods after a call was placed to the Durham Regional Police. Police say that Ma Brown's Rd. resi- dent seen some unknown people around a neighbor's home around 2:30 p.m. on May 11 and notified police. The home owner was away at the time, police say. A black car was seen in the driveway with property from the house piled beside it, say police, adding that a male was seen in the car. Upon seeing the thieves, the neighbor went over and confronted another male who was coming around the corner of the house with an armful of articles. The two males, who gained entry to the home by kicking in a rear basement door on the west-side of the residence, fled the scene, say police, noting that all the goods taken from the house were left in the driveway. The suspécts are described as males in their late teens. Just after the two males left another one was seen walking down the road from the home wearing a black jogging suit with white stripes and a black cap. Police believe he was left behind acci- dentally in the rush to flee the home. He was last seen walking in the direc- tion of a carpool lot and police were later called when a 1989 Chev pickup was noticed missing from the lot. The truck was last seen on Mary St. in Oshawa later that day but has yet to be recovered, police say. Port Perry & Prince Albert UNITED CHURCHES Minister: Rev. Robert J.
