Best wishes are extend- ed to Susan Kyte and Gerry Marino who were married on Saturday in a beautiful wedding at the Sacred Heart Church, Peterborough. The recep- tion and dance were held. at the Evinrude Centre in Peterborough. Many friends and relatives from this area attended this happy event. On Sunday afternoon many attended the bridal shower held in the C.E. Room of the United Church in honor of bride-to-be Tracy Hoskin. The after- noon began with the serv- ing of punch and an assort- ment of desserts. Judy Gilbank was the very capa- ble M.C. for the afternoon's activities. The program included readings given by May Shortridge and Jessie Gunter as well as an inter- esting contest. After Tracy had opened the many lovely gifts, she thanked everyone for their gifts and best wish- es. A social time concluded the pleasant afternoon. Kathleen Dorrell attended the Wizard of Oz production at the R.H. Cornish Public School, Port Perry on Friday evening. Her granddaughter Revie McCoy played the part of Gloria singing the solo "The Merry Old Wizard of Oz." On Thursday Muriel Wotten, Hazel Coates and Joyce Kelly represented Shirley Women's Institute at the Ontario South District Annual held at Scugog Island United Church and Hall. There were 11 tables at the weekly card party with the following winners: Charlie Stapleton, Muriel Butson, Richard Potter, Verna Slute, Grace Bassant, Kathleen Watts and Jean Van Camp. Lucky draws were won by Bernice Wells, Lois Huntington, Myrtle Gimblett, Jean Van Camp, Merrill Van Camp and Ruby Smith. Nancy and Bob Bryans were hosts for lunch for their Florida park neigh- bors. Doreen and Kelvin Jarvis of Burlington along with Marg and Vic Brown of Scarborough enjoyed the visit together. If you have any- thing you would like to donate to this sale, please give the high school a call as soon as possible. It is a great opportunity to get rid of some unwanted items and donate to a great cause at the same time. The Afternoon Unit met at the home of Thelma Wright. Nine members enjoyed the dessert lun- cheon. Marion Larmer opened the meeting with an excerpt from the book, "Simple Abundance." Roll Call was to name a young woman in our church who has contributed to our church life. Dora had the worship service and based her words on Ecclesiastes, Chapter 3, vs 1-15 in which we are told to be happy and do the best we can. Do not try to overachieve. Taking some thoughts from the book, "Simple Abundance," we realize that we should pare down, get back to the basics and learn what is essential for happiness. We sang the Shaker hymn, "Simple Gifts." Jean Churchill showed her collection of sea shells and led us on a pathway of faith. She followed the book written by Ann Morrow Lindburgh where she com- pares life to sea shells. There were whelks, sand dollars, starfish, baby's foot, act's paw, sea horses, angel wings, moon shells, Paul Newman's Eye to name a few. Ann Lindburgh was the wife of the famous Charles Lindburgh who was the first to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. We made plans for the Scout Banquet on May 29. The general meeting is May 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the church. It was decided to meet at the church on May 30 to finish the quilts. Marion closed the meeting with Benediction. Dora Martyn, Reporter On Friday, May 29 the dinner and dance will be held again at the Victorian Room of the Admiral Inn, Lindsay with ball room dancing to the music of the Swing Tyme Melodies. The charity for this week is G- Chuck Enterprises which is the umbrella for the Lindsay Boys and Girls Club.
