PA RRR PP ---- a -- 12- PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, June 30, 1998 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" Police report Car thieves still targeting vehicles in the Scugog area Car thieves are still busy in the Scugog area, Durham Regional Police report, as three more vehicles were hit in the last week. 0 Sometime between noon and 4 p.m. on June 22, an employee at the local CIBC branch had left her car parked on Queen St. and when she returned the vehicle was missing. Later that day, however, police report that the blue 1990 Plymouth Acclaim was found around 11:30 p.m. the same day in the provincial park located at the north end of Scugog Island. Damage to the vehicle included a smashed windshield and passenger window, dash and a broken ignition. a Police were also called to another Queen St. residence shortly after 1 a.m. on June 23 after thieves attempted to take a 1987 Buick. The owner awoke after hearing a horn and upon looking outside, saw three youths around her vehicle. Two of the youths were inside her vehicle and were attempting to break the igni- tion, police said. The woman went back inside her home to call police and when she returned the youths were gone, police say. A search for the trio was held but nothing was found, add police. The suspects are described as white males between the ages of 16 and 17. One is reported to have been wearing a white T-shirt while the other had a beige top on. The third youth is described as wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt. The right signal arm and ignition- switch damage to the Buick is estimated to be worth approximately $200. Q Thieves also attempted to steal a 1985 Volkswagen Golf from a Greenbank address during the noon hour on June 22, say police. Sometime between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. thieves tried to steal the Volkswagen from a Cragg Rd. home. Police say thieves broke the door handle off in their attempt, but could not gain entry to the vehicle. Damage to the car is estimated to be around $100.
