Ashley and Kaitlin O'Donnell of Waterloo are spending some holidays with their grandparents Wilma and Keith Van Camp and Uncle Barry. Best wishes to Marie and Ross Tysick who moved away from Blackstock to their new location at Oakwood. Ross and Marie will be taking memories of their 25 years living here in Blackstock. Last weekend Nancy and Bob Bryans were hosts of their ing of Margaret Hutton of Florida Park in Clearwater for the seventh annual picnic. The gathering began on Wednesday with four members of the park arriving on Harleys from Indiana, and continued on Thursday with two arriving from Holiday, Florida and two others from Ashtabula, Ohio. A fresh trout dinner for 15 was enjoyed on Friday evening. On Saturday 35 park residents sat down to a barbecued roast beef dinner. On Sunday about 20 enjoyed the leftovers. Much visiting and catching up on news was enjoyed throughout the weekend with this international party. Barry Van Camp returned home last week from a most enjoyable three week vacation in Switzerland where he visited with friends. As well he enjoyed much sightseeing throughout this scenic country. Last Sunday Glenn and Marion Larmer and Ralph and Peggy Larmer and members of their families enjoyed attending the annual Taylor family picnic where much visiting, a program of sports and wonderful food was enjoyed. Blackstock Nancy Bryans enjoyed a sur- prise 50th birthday for brother- in-law Vic Hanc at "Hanc's Too" new sports bar in Bowmanville. On Tuesday evening Ralph and Peggy Larmer, Glenn and Marion Larmer and Gerald and Joyce Kelly enjoyed a picnic at the home of Lois and Harvey Yellowlees in Solina along with a number of former Oshawa Presbytery YPU members. Lucky draws were won by Elsie Pogue, Elva Bothwell, Verna Draper, Lois Huntington, Roy Werry and Gladys Greenwood. Shuffleboard continues each Wednesday at the local arena - visitors either as players or as observers are always welcome. St. John's News By Colin Beal Our Sunday Church Service is always a time of rejoicing and thanksgiving and the 1st Sunday of August was marked by two special reasons for celebration. We were delighted to learn that Lawrence and Linda McLaughlin are now grandparents. Riley William, son of Lynn (nee McLaughlin) and Jim McPhail arrived on Friday evening at the hospital in Newmarket. Riley tipped the scales at 9-1/2 pounds. He and mom are both doing well. Linda was the recipient of many hugs and kisses at coffee time. Then came the good news that Ken Carmichael's surgery on Thursday was successful and that the prognosis is excellent. Father Hugh had visited Ken after the surgery and he reported that the patient "is in great spir- its and rarin to go." Time flies and it's nearly time for the 1998 Blackstock Fair. The long range forecast suggests that the weather will probably be quite warm at the end of August. That will make for a great day at the fair and a great day for enjoying ice cream. And for really great ice cream you should make a point of visiting the St. John's booth. We will again be in the fair building between the hall and the arena. Good attendance at the 1998 Regatta made it a success This past weekend Eileen and I took a trip up to Gravenhurst, Bracebridge, Bala and then across and up to the top of the Bruce Peninsula to Tobermory. By law you should have your headlights on a half hour before sunset and a half hour after sun rise. I can now understand why we have head on collisions at these hours of the day. Lake Scugog Regatta Assoc. Our annual Regatta for 1998 1s over. I won't say it was the best, but it certainly ranks up there with the top half dozen. We could not have had better weather, both days were warm, sunny and just perfect for all our activities and events. Great attendance and most of all to see 50 to 60 children participating in the races and novelty events makes all our work and efforts to have a successful weekend more than worthwhile. We must extend our congratu- lations to the members of the Regatta executive for a most enjoyable well organized week- end. A special thank you is extended to all those volunteers and helpers, starters, judges, scorekeepers, and to all our col- lectors who worked on our yearly collection day. I must mention also the support we received from the advertisers in our Regatta program, whose support makes Caesarea Albert Putsey Cr ------------ our program possible. The major trophies of the weekend were awarded to the following participants: Wally the Clown - best costume - Danielle Rogers. Hollingsworth Trophy - 100 yard dash - Craig Morgan. Sorry to hear that Rodney Ashenhurst 1s in Uxbridge Hospital. Evan and Jeffery are visiting with Neil and Rose Evans for a few days. Eighty members of the Gladys and Wilfred Evans family gath- 'ered at Greenbank Park on Saturday. A beautiful summer day made the visiting, games and food a perfect occasion for a picnic. Utica & Epsom Dorothy and Ray Munro enjoyed a holiday time in north- ern Ontario, visiting family and friends. They report that our former Epsom neighbors, Harold and Lucienne Ross are fine. The Slack residence has been alive with activity this past cou- ple of weekends. A week ago they hosted a picnic for Robert's family and this past weekend they had a family picnic for Dale's family as well as cele- brating her grandmother's 96th birthday. I see by the signs that the Kelz place has been sold so we can look forward to meeting new neighbors south of Utica village. There have been a few new own- ers since the Lowes lived there. Several from this area attend- ed the 22nd Greenbank Barbecue on Friday evening. Both the food and the entertain- ment were excellent. A baby shower presentation for Brian, Pat and baby Ben Kerry and Glen, Shari and baby Hayden Kerry will be held on Friday, Aug. 21 at 8 p.m. in Epsom Church. Anyone wishing to donate towards this gift please contact Faye Ashton or Darlene Christie. Albert Putsey Sr. Trophy - high points for field day - Andrea Smith. Sears Trophy - high points aquatic - Kim Colaghan. Regatta Trophy - high points aggregate for field and aquatic boy - Andrew Hamer. Lawrie Trophy - high points aggregate field and aquatic boy or girl. The Lawrie Trophy in its first year of competition provided the excitement and tension worthy of world class competition. There was no clear leader until the final canoeing event and when all points were tabulated a three way tie was the conclusion. The three co-winners were Andrea Smith, Irene Baxter and Alison Durocher. Blackstock Lions Club Your friendly Lion will be around this coming weekend for your cheese order.
