"A Family Tradition for 132 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, August 11, 1998 - 9 Fair board wants pictures of this year's event Contest will pick the best shots of Blackstock fair By Chris Hall Port Perry Star Members of the Blackstock Fair Board want to see their annual fall festival through your eyes this year. ~ Fair board member Joan Graham is inviting the public to get on the other side of their camera's lens and start snapping away at what they see at the 1998 Blackstock Fair, scheduled for Aug. 29. "This is the first year we're trying it; we wanted to do something different and we figured this was a good way," she said last week, adding that a number of prizes are up for grabs for the best shots in both an adult and childrens' category. "I've been taking pictures for the fair board for many years now and with a number of new people taking shots as well, we should get some different per- spectives; a different look at the Blackstock Fair through some other people's eyes. "There are so many things going on during the day that I can't possibly capture everything. There's not a lack of subjects and events, that's for sure." Anyone interested in entering this year's photo contest is urged to sign up at least one week before the Aug. 29 fair. Those participating can pick up their free roll of 24-exposure color film at the fair the day of the event, and start snapping away. Film must be returned to the fair secretary by 5 p.m. that day. Helping out the cause this year is Jeff Reid, owner of Reid's Independent Grocers, who will be offering the fair board film at a reduced rate and doing the processing of the shots. "When the fair 1s over we're going to take the film back to Reid's where we can get it developed, and pick some winners," said Mrs. Graham. "The ones we pick will be submitted to the Ontario Fair Board for judging at a later date." Negatives and any unused photos will be returned to all the photographers. Only amateur shooters are allowed to enter the contest. Prizes up for grabs in the adult category start at $100 framing job from The Framer's Gallery for the top shot, and fol- low with a $75 framing for second, and a $50 framing for third. Prizes for the children, those aged 10 to 16 years, start at $10 for first down to $2 for fifth. "I walk many, many miles around the fair during the day and this would such a great help to me," Mrs. Graham said. Anyone interested in participating is urged to call either Janice Beechey at 986-0035 or Joan Graham at 985-4856 soon. A registration sheet will also be avail- able at Reid's Grocers as well.
