~~ 14- PORT PERRY STAR - Wednesday, September 9, 1998 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" New curator is hired at Scugog Shores Museum The Scugog Shores Museum board of directors has announced the appoint- ment of Susan Neale as curator. Ms Neale begins managing the muse- um's day-to-day operations on Oct. 1. Prior to day one on the job, however, she will be at the museum's "Fall Fair Day," Sunday, Sept. 27. Fall Fair Day is a special, annual event for friends and families to enjoy as the museum's 19th century rural village setting comes alive with the help of costumed artisans, craftspeople and heritage interpreters. "Special event days really capture what the Scugog Shores Historical Museum is all about," says Catherine Corden, Secretary, Museum Board. "We think this 1s a great opportunity for Susan to become more familiar with the community and the many vol- unteers who make the museum, and special events like Fall Fair Day, a success." An instructor with the Museum Management and Curatorship Program at Sir Sandford Fleming College 1n Peterborough, Ms Neale has graduate degrees in teaching and anthropology and has worked as both an interpreter and an archaeologist at other museums, including Lang Pioneer Village and Historic Fort York. A published writer, Ms Neale has prepared teaching guides for several National Film Board of Canada productions. Ms Neale says she is committed to working closely with the community in promoting the museum as an important learning centre and key contributor to the preservation of Ontario's heritage. "I'm also determined to do all I can to ensure Scugog Shores 1s a fun place to be, to making the experience of vis- iting and working at this museum as meaningful and enjoyable as possible," she said. The appointment of Susan Neale as curator follows the decision by the museum's former curator, Dan Roberts, to leave last July in order to pursue similar work in Nova Scotia.
