Many from this area attend- ed or participated in the many sections of the Lindsay Exhibition last week. Others enjoyed the Pioneer Fair at the Scugog Shores Museum on Sunday. Still others have been taking advantage of the many bus trips that have been hap- pening during the past week and again this week. It cer- tainly is the season for activity. Best wishes are extended to Jennifer Arbuckle and Phil McLeod who were married Saturday afternoon in Nestleton United Church with the reception and dance held at the Nestleton Hall. Next Sunday, Oct. 4 there will be a community miscella- neous shower for Elizabeth Anderson and Steven Mairs at Nestleton United Church at 12:30 p.m. Everyone is invited. 4-H begins again this week on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Blackstock United Church with the new project "A Sporting Chance." 4-H is open to all young people between the ages of 10 and 21 as of Jan. 1, 1998. Matt and Sheryl (Gibson) There's nothing like a nice fall weekend in Scugog Township Julien returned home safely two days late from their honey- moon in Antigua where they encountered Hurricane George. A time of great concern for their families wondering about their safety. An open house at the Blackstock United Church in honor of Peggy and Ralph Larmer's 50th wedding anniversary will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. All are welcome. There were 13 tables at the Tuesday evening weekly card party with the following win- ners: Jean Van Camp - 86, Elsie Pogue, Glenn Lowery, Dorothy Olan, Muriel Selby, Richard Potter, Charlie Stapleton. Lucky draws were won by Elsie Pogue, William Dunn, Muriel Selby, Joan Sutcliffe, Dorothy Olan and Helen Dorrell. On Sunday morning the ladies of "The Touch of Country" provided the special music at the anniversary service at Nestleton Presbyterian Church. St. John's Anglican Church By Lorna Edgerton Reporter It was nice to see most of the folks back from holidays. The Sunday School has started and this morning the children did a skit from their studies. Also the Junior Choir sang "Come Fill My World" accom- panied by Catherine Corden. Catherine will be the leader for the Junior Choir along with the Senior Choir. Later in the Parish Hall, birthday greetings were sung for Rachel Kubovic, 12-years- old and Kimberly Coles - four- years-old, while we enjoyed refreshments. There will be a Mid-week Eucharist on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. Thanksgiving Service will be on Oct. 11 at 9:30 a.m. Please keep in mind our fall supper for Nov. 7 starting at 4:30 p.m. We are planning a roast beef dinner this time. Jennifer is the daughter of Linda Arbuckle and the late John Arbuckle. Jennifer and Phil were married at the weekend guests of the Arbuckle family, as Sandra was Jennifer's maid of honor. 4-H is about to begin for the fall club in Blackstock. The Shirley Women's Institute are holding a work- shop "Learn to Crochet" on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the OMAFRA office in Port Perry on Vanedward Drive. Blue Ray Chapter Blue Ray members and visi- tors attended their first meet- ing, "Captain and Mates Night," after the summer recess. Several Worthy Matrons and Worthy Patrons from other Chapters were present as well as a visitor from Iowa, U.S.A. Peter Miles, Worthy Patron of Blue Ray, gave an excellent report of the sessions of Grand Chapter at The Constellation Hotel in Toronto the latter part of August. Twelve members attended. Yearly reports were given showing an excellent year as we celebrate our 50th birthday. Lucky draws for W.M.'s project and a dainty lunch concluded the evening. 153 Anniversary of Cadmus - Nestleton Church Sunday, Sept. 27 the anniver- sary service was held at the Nestleton Presbyterian Church in Nestleton. Rev. Wm. Fairley was the minister and Joyce Taylor was the organist. Special music by the "A Touch of Country" was much enjoyed. The choir sang "For What Earthly Reason," "Simple Gifts" and "Go Now In Peace," with their pianist Carol Edwards. Flowers in the sanctuary were in memory of Richard Davison, Howard Lee and Arnold Taylor. Lunch and social time was held in the Sunday School Hall, with the choir of ladies and former members attending. Our thoughts are with the Island girls that experienced a terrible storm Saturday while camping in Greenwood with the Guides. Scugog Island Women's Institute By Betty Reader, Public Relations A good turnout of members attended the Sept. 16 meeting and answered the Roll Call "Name a medicine that has helped you." The Central Ontario Area W.I.'s 96th Convention will be held at the Howard Johnson Hotel, Scarborough, on Oct. 16 and 17. The Scholarship Fund raised by Ontario North and South Districts received a big boost from the July Strawberry * Supper held at Uxbridge Museum. Thanks to all who supplied food and helped. Clara Dowson introduced our speaker, Mrs. Dora O'Connor, Guardian Drug phar- macist who spoke on prescrip- tion and over-the-counter drugs and medicines. Nest month's meeting, Oct. 21, at 8 p.m., Island Hall will be about "Creative Pumpkins" by Betty Ann Freeman's group. Visitors always welcome. Scugog Island United Church The Sunflower Pot Luck Supper was a great success on Saturday evening. Seventeen people participated in the con- test and Sunflowers of all shapes and sizes were on dis- play. Tom Manns grew the largest in the adult category and Amber Carr grew the largest in the children's category. Our orchestra played during our Sunday morning worship. Thanks to Bonnie Bell, Bob Cawker, Doreen Adam, Edna Beckett, and Doug Baird for sharing their ministry of music. The Worship and Music Committee are looking for scrip- ture readers. If you would like to read the scriptures occasion- ally on Sunday mornings and would be available for monthly evening Bible Study Sessions, please let Elaine know.
