"A Family Tradition for 132 Years" I I = HI Hr LC -------- PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, September 29, 1998 - 5 New curator at museum is eager to assume duties By Chris Hall Port Perry Star Taking in the sights and sounds of her first event at the Scugog Shores Museum, new curator Susan Neale mills about the historic grounds meet- ing and greeting those pre- sent. Set to officially assume her role at the Island muse- um on Thursday (Oct. 1), Mrs. Neale says that last weekend's annual Pioneer Fall Fair was an ideal way to get to know the museum, its volunteers and numer- ous guests. "The people are very warm and welcoming here, and the dedication of the volunteers is great," she sald, adding that she is quite familiar with the town of Port Perry. "The museum here is great; it is much larger than I anticipated, and has an extensive collection." Prior to her hiring at the local museum, Mrs. Neale has worked at the Lang Pioneer Village, Historic Fort York in Toronto, and the Barnham Service marks Myrtl Myrtle United Church U.C.W. Anniversary Service will be held on Oct. 4 with guest choir and a pot luck supper at House Museum near Cobourg. At the time she applied for the position here, Mrs. Neale was employed at Sir Sandford College in Peterborough as a teacher in the museum manage- ment and curatorship pro- gram. The Trent and University of Toronto grad- uate has also had archae- ology training, and is a qualified teacher. The chance to work once again in a museum was too much for her to pass up, though. "I'd always wanted to get back into working at a living museum; opportuni- ties for that are few and far between, and I had to try for this one," she said. "This is a nice museum with a lot of great things going for it. I'm really excit- ed about getting started here." Mrs. Neale replaces for- mer curator Dan Robert, who left Scugog after four years earlier this summer to work at a provincial museum in Nova Scotia. e church anniversary 5:30 p.m. and the service will start at 7 p.m. The annual pie sale will be held Oct. 7, 8 and 9 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. THERAPY & COUNSELLING Dr. Bill Eull, Ph.D..C Psych Psychologist Joyce Eull, RN.
