While the business tax is picked up by the Port Perry store, the proper- ty tax bill is passed on from the township to his landlord, who in turn adds it on to his rent, he explained. "It'll be another four weeks before we know how we were hit," he said. "We pay our own bills, but it will go to Shopper's Drug Mart first before 1t comes to us." He adds, though, that he has been hit with a $600 increase -on his home property taxes. "I'm not happy with it, but I know it's the provincial government and not the township," said Mr. Brown. "I think the major point for me 1s I'm paying these taxes outside of town but I'm not getting the same services. I'm not on pub- lic water or sewer and I don't have sidewalks or streetlights." Also waiting to hear from his landlord is Rick McCoshen, owner of Rick's Barber Shoppe on Water St. "I'm going to have to wait until the next month before I find out what my rent's going up to," he said, adding that he has been asked to pay more on his own property taxes.
