Scugog Township council is holding a town hall meeting next Tuesday, Oct. 20, in the community hall at Scugog Arena, and we urge you to be there. It's important to attend for a number of reasons. Primary among them are the items on the agenda. The meeting will offer residents insight on council actions since their election just under a year ago, and a preview of the many issues looming on the horizon. There are big goings-on afoot, not the least of which is the Greater Toronto Services Board, which has heavy implica- tions for the very future of the township. This meeting is your chance to be brought up to speed on issues both internal and external, and contribute your two cents. It's also important to take the councillors up on their offer of a town hall forum. It's an unusual move, really, seeing as how anyone can go to and speak at regular council meetings. But it's one we like. It shows respect and trust toward the constituents, and a willingness to be open with us. Take this opportunity, and show the local politicians you're interested in what they're doing, and being kept informed of decisions being made on your behalf. We all want open government; when the opportunity arises, we must take it. 1988 . A ---------- BUSINESS OFFICE | > Canadians ans o se » Office Mgr. ................c....... Fd E ASSESSHENT B RapOA } STAR To the Editor: I wish to express my thanks to the reporters and the editorial staff of The Port Perry Star for the extensive coverage of the issue of the possible completion of the Scugog Centre recreation complex. You have made it possible for me to bring to the public's attention that there are some Scugog residents who would like to see a second ice pad and an indoor municipal swimming pool in the township. I have now reached my goal of having this issue out in the public for debate. If it is determined that the majority of iy 57 rg A 5 % 5 as a Gi es Second ice pad effort continues township residents would like to see a second pad and pool, then I'm willing to put in the time and effort of working towards that goal. If, on the other hand, the majority do not support this project, then it is time to put this issue to rest, and we can move on to other worthwhile community projects. If any member of the public would be interested in assisting, they may call me at 985-8633 or write to 2389 Head Rd., Port Perry, LOL 1B4. , Jeffery W. Brown, Scugog Island it's been a short 10 years since area residents frequented these two Port Perry eating establishments. At left is the old Bayshore Take-Out and at right, the Conway Place Restaurant. Both were very popular spots during the 70's and 80s, but were removed to make room for a proposed plaza and condominium complex. Plans for the complex died, and today the Reid's Independent Grocer store is located on the property formerly occupied by these buildings.
