RoorTs Ralph and Peggy Larmer celebrate 50th with friends Blackstock Ralph and Peggy Larmer had a busy weekend celebrating their 50th wedding anniver- sary. On Saturday afternoon they were guests of honour at an open house held for them by their family at the Blackstock United Church. Many many friends and relatives attended this very pleasant afternoon. Then on Sunday, David and Ingrid Larmer, assisted by David's siblings, Sharon Goulding, John Larmer of Uxbridge and Paul and Marg Larmer of Guelph, hosted a barbecue dinner and afternoon of visiting for nearly 70 guests. Congratulations and best wish- es are extended to Peggy and Ralph on this happy occasion. Ralph's sister Beryl and her husband Ken Strang and their sons Steve and Tom and their families all of Ottawa were among the many out of town guests at the anniversary cele- bration. They were guests of Glenn and Marion Larmer. On Friday and Saturday many ladies attended the annu- al Women's Institute Area Convention held at Markham. Representing Blackstock W.I. were Dora Martyn, Helen Dorrell and Jean Van Camp and representing Shirley W.1. were Muriel Wotten and Joyce Kelly. The annual District 4 OAAS meeting for members of all fair boards in our district will be held at the Trinity United Church, Omemee on Thursday, Oct. 22 beginning at 9:15 a.m. Blackstock members call Janice Beechey at 986-0035 to arrange car pooling. All members are urged to try to attend. On Saturday the ladies of the "1930 Club" enjoyed a pot luck luncheon and visit at the home of Gwen Lyons of Leaskdale. From here Ruby Van Camp, Eileen McLaughlin, Connie Swain and Jean Van Camp attended. The group also included Gladys Pounder of Oshawa and Norma Clarke of Toronto. Patti Alpe was guest of hon- our at several events celebrat- ing her 40th birthday. Thanksgiving Monday the whole family enjoyed supper at Nancy and Bob Bryans, Cadmus home with Nathan and Emma Alpe, Gord, Deb, Leanna and Christina Bryans of Egypt and Steve, Lorinda and Mark Bryans of Mount Horeb. Happy birthday, Patti. There were 14 tables at the Tuesday evening euchre with the following winners: Marie Geer 92, Chester Madsen 90, Muriel Butson 88, Les Johnston 88, Teresa Berkers 86, Norman Rohrer 85 and Bert Watts. Lucky draws were won by Doris Manns, Doris Hill, Doreen McLean, Vivian Kidd, Alice Beech and Alden Hubbard. Congratulations to Nancy Bryans who was a winner of $500 from a contest on Talk 640 Radio. October ONO Eleven members and two guests met at Nancy Bryans' home for a delicious pot luck dinner on Thursday, Oct. 15. The minutes were read and approved and the treasurer's report given. On Monday, Nov. 16 the Arthritis Society speaker will be in Blackstock. ONO will help the Women's Institute sponsor this evening. It was decided that ONO continue to award prizes to the top student in Grade 9 and 10 at Commencement at Cartwright High School again this year. Rhonda Rundle sent word of an open house being held on Thursday, Oct. 29 at the Youth Drop-In Centre. The roll call was well answered with suggestions for roll calls for next year. Our membership fees were paid and we were pleased to welcome two new members, Gail Mason and Helen Coates. Barb Byers offered to prepare lists for meet- ings and roll calls for next year. Nancy had asked Sarah Dedong to address us with her prize winning public school speech. It was excellent. Lions planning annual Halloween party for kids Oct. 31 Next Sunday, Nov. 1 Greenbank will be celebrating their 102nd church anniversary with guest speaker, Rev. Dr. John Webster Grant. Greenbank Evening Unit U.C.W. _are now taking orders for Regal prod- ucts. Orders will be due early in November. It was a great fun effort to support the food bank. There will be a local windup to pur- chase the last 70 Greenbank Hall Expansion "Lots" in the next two weeks. If you haven't yet purchased your lot(s) please forward your cheque for $100 (per lot) to Box 177, Greenbank or give to any member of the Greenbank Lions Club and your tax deductible receipt will be mailed to you. Cheques should be made out to "Township of Scugog." There will be some local canvassing to ensure that this Greenbank project can come to a successful conclusion as quickly as possible, so please play a part in the project. The Lions Club will be running the Halloween Party for the local children up to age eight. The party runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and there will be pizza, movies, and gift packs for the children. Caesarea Hall The folks that went to the euchre night last Wednesday had a wonderful time accord- ing to all reports. The top scores went to Ruth Wardlaw and Irene Train. Next euchre night is Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. Last week I wrote it was a non-smoking evening which was true for the euchre but not for the coming Oct. 24 Halloween Dance. Blackstock Lions Club This coming Wednesday, Oct. 21 is ladies night at our dinner at Blackstock Rec. Centre meeting. Cheese sales are still going along quite well. I guess people can really taste the difference. Guest speaker will be Rob Snack who recently won a sil- ver and bronze award in the world competitions. Mrs. Cliff Warner We were sorry to hear Mrs. Warner had been hospitalized with an operation. She is now home and coming along quite well. Fall After Thanksgiving Weekend we noticed a real trend of the fall season with more colour of the trees plus leaves dropping. This past weekend was a great one around us for get- ting the warf all in. Also win- terizing the boat motors and placing the boats in storage. We are having to put heat on in the evenings.
