ae 22- PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, October 20, 1998 - ( "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" They meet tough competition at event Goreski Peewees in Sterling for weekend tourney The Peewee II team was on the road early Saturday morning on their way to The Sterling Peewee Tournament. Did anyone see any sings that actually said Sterling? We were on the ice at 7:45 a.m. against the Frankford team. They caught us off guard (or were we still asleep) with an early goal at 9:36. We quickly got back on track and kept them on the go but they scored a goal on us at 8:25 of the second during a scramble out in front of our netminder Leo Taillon. We had a power play late in the second period but couldn't capitalize on the man advan- tage. Into the third the boys were working hard and at 3:52 Michael Lycett put it in on a beautiful angled shot. Assists went to Justin Sanders and Jesse Mullins. Frankford scored again with only four seconds left in the game to end it 3-1. Now we got to have breakfast before the noon game in Marmora against Ennismore. A quick start by the Ennismore team as they got on the scoreboard in the first 10 seconds. We answered back with a goal at 7:41 by Justin Sanders, with assists going to Jesse Mullins and Kyle Mullins. Two more goals by our opponents at 5:12 and 4:52 left the score at 3-1. Jessie Mullins put one in at 4:42 for the Predator team. A penalty in the last few minutes in the period cost us another goal and into the second we went. A high flying shot by Ennismore went upstairs one minute in. Our boys had a wild scramble in front of their net and our defence team of Kristy Ashton, David McGarry, Michael Lycett, Blake Cunningham, Adam Smart and Taylor Churchill all worked hard to keep the puck in their zone. Justin Sanders did an end to end rush and scored unassisted at 5:11. Ennismore scored again at 4:07 on a power play and another goal went in at 3:39. Jessie Mullins had some great shots this period. As the period came to a close, Kevin Gloster hit the net at 1:14, on passes by Ryan Belair and Shane Jeffrey. With 22 seconds in the period, Ennismore got past our defence and the period ended 8-4. Ennismore scored two more goals in the third and the Predators got one from Justin Sanders, his third of the game, to earn him his first hat trick of the season. Joe "Shooter" Kozlinski got his first goal of the series with 29 seconds left in the game. This game was a tough one for our netminder Mark Carnaghan as he encountered a lot of traffic his way from the Ennismore team. This high scoring game ended 10-6. Our third game was back in Sterling at 9 p.m. against Ops. Kyle Mullins opened the scoring on a nice goal at 9:44 assisted by Joe Kozlinski. Ops answered back at 8:12. Jesse Mullins passed a nice shot to Matt Kamminga who put it past their goalie at 6:57. Into the second and Brodie "Fireball" Harrison scored with assists going to Matt Kamminga and Jesse Mullins. Ops answered back at 2:28 to end the period 3-2 for Port Perry. Our goalie Leo "Flipper" Taillon did a great job goaltending, holding off their offence using one of our defenseman's stick after losing his own. With only 15 seconds to go Ops scored to force over- time. A five minute sudden death had no results, so we went to the shoot out. A questionable decision on a penalty not being honoured saw us go into the shoot out with a four on four. Then the three on three resulted in a goal at :33 to end the game and send us on our way. Thanks to coach Doug Danter and his two helpers on the bench, Dennis Ashton and Jerry Kozlinski. Compton 2 Van & Truck World 7 Van & Truck got this blowout started early with a goal from Brad Coppin assisted by Greg Fitzgerald. Compton did show a small sign of life with Scott Wilbur scoring from Ron Compton and Peter Somers. But Van & Truck World was too much by scoring six more goals from Jay Adams (three), Brian Williamson (two), and Dave Buxcey. Compton did score one more goal at the end of the game from Ivan Geer set up by Peter Somers. Monsma Electric 5 Pineridge Sports 2 The final game of the morning saw Monsma Electric beat up on the top team in the league 5-2. Danny Taylor scored first for Pineridge from Dave Burnett.
