A.L. Georgieff, M.C.I.P., R.P.P. Commissioner of Planning Steve Parish Chair, Planning Committee Show of goodwill among clubs Port Perry Lions give Greenbank campaign a big push By Chris Hall Port Perry Star The Greenbank Lions Club received a boost last week when their Port Perry counterparts pre- sented them with a cheque for $500 in aid of their latest project. Thanks to the generos- ity of the Port chapter, the Greenbank club has come five steps closer to owning a parcel of land directly south of their existing building, says Rodd Foster, chair of the area's park and hall com- mittee. The plan calls for the Greenbank Lions Club to purchase a 93 by 165-foot lot located south of the Greenbank Hall, and use it for a potential expan- sion and a parking lot. A price of $40,000 was settled upon, and Scugog Township has agreed to cover half the cost, said Mr. Foster, leaving the club to come up with the rest. In order to come up with the money, the club The Port Perry Lions Club gave the Greenbank club a big push in the right direction last week when they presented them with a cheque for $500. The money will go towards the purchase of a parcel of land which the Greenbank club hopes to use for parking and expansion. Greenbank's Rodd Foster and Larry Doble, left, accepted the cheque from Port's Guy Latreille and Rob Rice. has opted to "sell" plots of land at a cost of $100 each; 144 of the lots are already sold, leaving only 56 remaining, he said. "The Greenbank Hall is landlocked and with the purchase of this, we have room for expansion if we want and we can build a parking lot; right now we have zero parking and this 1s a great piece of proper- ty," said Mr. Foster, Penny speaks at next meeting The Scugog Chamber of Commerce will hold their next Business for Breakfast Meeting on Thursday, Nov. 26 from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. at Emiel's Place. "Hopefully we can get the money raised by the end of the year, maybe December if we're lucky, and we can start to build the parking lot next spring," said Mr. Foster. "Everyone has put a good effort into this because they realize this 1s something Greenbank needs; it's a Greenbank project and the people here aren't going to let us down." Groups such as both local Lions clubs and the now-defunct Greenbank Gamblers ball team have purchased five lots, while other local service groups and individuals have bought lots too, he said. Everyone who buys a lot will have their name included on a commemo- rative plaque in the Greenbank Hall. A large part of the cred- it for the ambitious project goes to the couple who are selling the lot to the club, said Mr. Foster. "Jim and Pat Green have been really great to us; they could have prob- ably gotten a better deal from someone else and we really appreciate what they've done." Anyone interested in purchasing the few remaining lots can call Mr. Foster at 985-8298. Cheques can be made out to the Township of Scugog and tax receipts will be issued.
