"A Family Tradition for 132 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, November 17, 1998 - 11 Man charged after road rage incident here ~ A Port Perry man is facing charges after he took out his frustrations on a fel- low motorist, report Durham Regional Police. A 19-year-old Sunderland man received after a brief confrontation between the two drivers. Police say the Sunderland man was driving west along Highway 7A into Port minor injuries around 7:30 p.m on Nov. 6 Perry when he stopped at traffic lights by the Port Perry Plaza. The Port Perry man pulled up behind him and got out of his car before shouting at the victim and kicking his car. The Sunderland man made a right turn into the parking lot at Reid's Independent Grocers and made his way onto Water St. before coming to another stop at the Queen St. intersection. : Still following the victim, the Por Perry man stopped behind him and approached the car. Police say he hit the Sunderland man over top of the right eye with a 16-inch toy wooden bat. A scuffle ensued between the two, and passersby pulled them apart. The Port Perry man then drove away, police say. After a short investigation, Durham Police have charged a 39-year-old Port Perry man with one count of assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, and mis- chief. Fire destroys wood | garage in Caesarea spectacular fire destroyed a wooden garage in Caesarea during the late - afternoon on Nov. 10. Police say that the First Avenue fire was first reported around 4:40 p.m. that afternoon after a neighbour had heard a cou- ple of loud explosions and witnessed the single-car garage and attached wood- shed in flames. Firefighters from both Port Perry and Caesarea stations responded to the call. No one was home at the time of the fire. Officials are still not sure how the fire started, = police say, noting that the building was not equipped for hydro and that a cord leading to the garage was unplugged at the time. Various tools, a snow- blower, motorcycle, and new bathroom fixtures were lost in the blaze. Scugog Fire Department Chief Richard Miller explained that the explo- sions heard by the neigh- bour were probably those coming from aerosol paint cans combusting under the heat. Firefighters were on scene for more than two hours, he added. Early damage estimates are around $25,000. Bold thieves made off with more than $7,000 in tools from a Blackstock garage while the home- owners were sleeping, say Durham Regional Police. Sometime overnight between Nov. 11 and 12, thieves entered an attached garage on Greensboro Dr. and removed the majority of the power tools.
