Gas Bar & Variety 3 Ball/Callery & Associates 3 The opening game of SHL action featuring K.C.1. Gas Bar and Ball/Callery resulted in a 3-3 tie. K.C.I. Jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Warren Geer assisted by Bill Owen and Mike Ayres from Warren Geer and Duane Bronson. Late in the first Ball/Callery was able to net two goals to draw even going into the second frame. Finding the net for Ball/Callery was Brian Callery from Steve Fox, and tying this game was Paul Stanley after taking a pass from Steve Connors. In the second period K.C.I. regained their lead with a goal off the stick of Duane Bronson. The assist on this go-ahead goal went to Warren Geer. Fighting hard in the final period, Ball/Callery was able to tie this game at three when Paul Stanley netted his second of the contest from Bob Tarbotton as this game finished in a 3-3 draw. Cedar Creek - Contracting 4 Taylor/Ford Mercury 1 Game two of SHL play went to Cedar Creek Contracting as they prevailed by a score of 4-1 over Taylor/Ford Mercury. Taylor/Ford took the lead in this game however, as Brett Laycoe opened the scoring after being set up by Bill Bridge and Rich Bricknell. Following this goal it was all Cedar Creek as they put four goals past the Taylor/Ford netminder. Leading the way was John Harman with two goals which were both set up by Derek Fitzgerald and Nathan Brown. Also finding the Taylor/Ford net was Duane Empringham from Rick McJanet and Karl Durham, as well as Derek Fitzgerald from John Harman and Karl Durham. Ray Gibson was once again a key factor in the 4-1 Cedar Creek victory as he provided many key saves in this game. Pineridge Sports 4 Goreski's Roofing 0 ° This game was all Pineridge Sports as they shutout Goreski's Roofing by a final score of 4-0. Shawn Parker was big in the Pineridge nets picking up the shutout. Rick Goris put Pineridge's first goal on the board from Todd Smart and Bob Partington. Minutes later Ken Smart Jr. provided an unas- sisted effort to give Pineridge the two goal lead going into the third period. The final frame was no different as Pineridge Sports continued to fill the net with goals from Danny Taylor and Tony Oxley. Danny Taylor's goal was set up by Todd Smart and John Robertson, while Tony Oxley's was of the unas- sisted variety. Monsma Electric 2 Joe's Pizzeria 2 In the second draw of the morning Monsma Electric and Joe's Pizzeria solved nothing as they played to a 2-2 tie. Monsma Electric opened the scor- ing early in the first when Brian Till cut to the net and put a nice wrist shot upstairs to give Monsma the early advantage. Assists on the opener went to Dave Roth and Mike Clarke. In the second frame Joe's was able to tie things up when Steve Churchill came through after being set up by Dave Dickson and Keijo Kinnunen. In the third Monsma regained their lead as Mike McQuade found the back of the net assisted by Brian Till and Mike Clarke. This lead would not last very long however as Joe's would fight back as John Mackey converted after receiving a pass from Bruce Smith. There would be no more offence in this contest as the result was a 2-2 tie. Taylor Fuels 6 Compton Communications 2 In a more offensive minded contest it was Taylor Fuels collecting the two points with a 6-2 victory over Compton Communications. Jarrett Harman was playing well offensively in this game as he had Turn to Page 23 ON THE DOOR STEP: The Scugog Arena was packed last weekend as the Port Perry Minor Hockey Association presented the IGA Bantam Tourney. Teams from all over -- including Arthur, CHRIS HALL / PORT PERRY STAR Stouffville, New Hamburg, Midland, Markham, Keswick, and Port Elgin -- made the trip Saturday to take on the host Predators. Here, Port's netmin- der makes a great save in the consolation game. ModJacks miss the point(s) Port collects only a single point in weekend play after dropping a 5-3 decision to Bobcaygeon and then finishing off with a 6-6 draw vs Lakefield By John B. McClelland Port Perry Star In a battle to stay in fourth place, the Port Perry ModJacks could manage just a single point from a pair of weekend games in the Central Junior C Hockey League. The team that is scrapping it out for the fourth and final playoff spot went into Bobcaygeon Friday night and came home on the wrong end of a 5-3 score. Then Saturday evening on home ice, the green and white had to settle for a 6-6 deadlock with the Lakefield Chiefs in a wild, free-wheeling affair that should have gone in the Modacks' favour as they enjoyed the better of the play especially in the periods one and two. Twice the MoJacks owned two-goal leads over the Chiefs, a team that has given Port Perry trouble all season, including a 9-1 trouncing just three weeks ago. And twice they gave up those leads. In fact, the ModJacks almost let this one slip away completely. Were it not for some late heroics by leading scorer Adam Bonneveld, the MoJacks could have come up empty as the Chiefs had battled back for a 6-5 lead with under two minutes left in regulation. But Bonneveld, who has re-discovered the scoring touch that put him at the top of the Central League last season, spun a little magic with just 65 seconds on the clock to give the ModJacks the tie and a much needed single point. He collected a pass from Adam Jones, moved around the Chief defense and scored with a quick shot off a sharp angle. The five minute overtime failed to settle anything, although the ModJacks had several decent chances and Turn to Page 23 Port Peewee team loses two at Madoc tourney Goreski's squad drops pair to Kingston Goreski's Peewee II team trav- elled to Madoc Saturday morning for a tournament where they played a team from Kingston in the first game. Kingston scored the first goal but the Predators answered back two minutes later on a nice slap shot from the blue line by Ryan Belair. Blake Cunningham got caught in the "trolley tracks" as Don Cherry would say, during the first period but kept on going. Craig Simmons had some good shots in his first game with the team. Craig is filling in for Joe Kozlinski who is out with an injury for two weeks. Shane Jeffrey gave Port the lead into the second on a nice backhand shot past their goalie. Kingston fought back all through the second and scored late in the period to tie the game. Halfway throughout the third Kingston took the lead 3-2. They picked up another goal at 3:09. Kevin Gloster fired in Port's last goal at 3:02 after a nice pass from Dave McGarry but Kingston pre- vailed 4-3. A good effort by netminder Leo Taillon to keep the score close. Game two saw Port play another team from Kingston. Mark Carnaghan was in net for this con- test as this team took control of the first with two quick goals. Another goal at 1:44 put Kingston up 3-0. Matt Kamminga finally put Port on the scoreboard with two seconds left in the period. Another goal by Kingston finished the scoring to see the game end 4- 1. The team put in a good effort this game.
