TT TT "A Family Tradition for 132 Years" MoJacks, Merchants face off this Sunday From Page 21 almost got the winner in the dying seconds as they buzzed around the Chief net and goalie Ryan Hogan. Both teams were coming off losses -- the MoJacks to the Bullets and the Chiefs 8-4 last Tuesday to Uxbridge. As might be expected in a game that ends 6-6, it was hardly a defensive classic and both goalies -- Hogan for the Chiefs and Jeff Mackie for the MoJacks -- will probably want to forget this one. To be fair though, the guys in the big pads didn't get a great deal of help from their mates in front of them as the game featured numerous turn-overs, missed passes and defensive assignments. The result might make a hockey purist gag, but it was great entertainment as all the miscues led to a free-wheeling, fast skating game with scoring chances in abundance at both ends. The ModJacks came out of the gate like friskly colts and took an early 2-0 leads on goals by Adam Jones at 8:49 and Brent Pinch four minutes later. Pinch jumped on a rebound off a hard Jeff Clarke shot from the point. Then the Modacks started to dig their own grave with a series of penalties. They were two men short when Darren Mahoney made it 2-1 at 16:39 and one man short for Darrell Downer's marker less than a minute later. Both were left un-guarded in front of Mackie: The teams traded goals early in the second with Casey Van Schagen instrumental in setting up Jason Hansen at 6:56. He knocked down a puck with his glove deep in the Chief zone and then fed a nifty back-hand pass to Hansen in the slot. Towards the end of the middle frame, the ModJacks got their two goal margin back again as Bonneveld clicked on a power play on a nice setup by linemates Adam Metherall and Derek Tindal, the latter getting aregular shift with Ryan Odette and Dale Drummond out of the line-up for personal reasons -- they were attending weddings over the weekend. And Tindal, in his rookie year, turned in a strong game. Greg Blackburn made it 5-3 on a setup by Metheral and Bonneveld. He drilled a low shot from the blue line that Hogan got the paddle on, but it deflected into the cage. Blackburn, in his rookie season, is blessed with a fine shot from the blue line -- low, hard and almost always on net and he gets it away in a hurry. , The Chiefs again used the power play (again!) at 18:09 when Billy Young beat Mackie upstairs to cut the Modack lead to 5-4 after 40 minutes. And by the midpoint of the third, the visitors had scored twice for a 6-5 lead -- their first of the game -- as Chris White netted one at 6:35 and Joey Decarlo put them ahead at 10:37, both even strength goals, for a change. It looked like the Chiefs might steal the two points until Bonneveld got the equalizer -- his third point of the contest, and fifth in two games. The ModJacks were short-staffed Friday evening in Bobcaygeon and the last- place Bullets took full advantage with a 5-3 victory. Mike Strutt netted a pair for the MoJacks with Tindal getting the other. Bonneveld had two assists to keep his point production moving upward and single helpers went to Jones and Metheral. Strutt and Bullets Jarrett Rowden both picked up match penalties for what the ref called "discrimi- natory slurs." The Bullets at one point led 4-1. The ModJacks, to their credit, battled back to make it 4-3 early in the final frame, but the home town team cemented the win with a goal late in the period. .Mackie started the game in net for Port Perry and Ben Jillard took over for the final two periods. He stopped 29 shots. The ModJacks fired 42 chunks of rubber at the Bullet net. SLAPSHOTS: The single point gives the MoJacks 15 so far and a slim hold on fourth spot over the Little Britain Merchants, who are their next oppo- nents this coming Sunday night at the Scugog Arena. Face off is 7 p.m. Better call the Blood Bank and tell them to stock up as the last time they hooked up (Nov. 7 in Britain) things got very testy with over 100 minutes in enalties in a 10-3 MoJack win. These two teams hes developed a big-league hate for each other. at ON TOP: Close to 20 teams entered the seventh annual Lake Scugog Lumber / DJ Taylor Insurance Broker Two-Day Cash Bonspiel last weekend. Harrison Fuels dump Van & Truck World 6-2 From Page 21 four assists for Taylor Fuels. Compton took the early lead in this one as Jeremy Geer found the net unas- sisted but Taylor Fuels answered back with four goals of their own. His first was from Wayne Fox and Jarrett Harman while his second goal was an unas- sisted effort. Down 4-1, Compton did respond in the third period when Mike Driscoll came through with assists being handed out to Todd Wilbur and Greg Warriner. Taylor Fuels took over from there, however as Willie Edwards put one by the Compton goaltender assisted by Wayne Taylor and Lee Wilbur. Lee Wilbur then closed out the scoring in this game as he put home the rebound in front of the net with assists going-to Steve Lee and Jarrett Harman.
