And recently, a small group were recognized for their dedication. Last week at Lakeridge Health Port Perry, 17 volunteers were presented with service awards. The Dec. 1 ceremony gave hospital officials a chance to thank those who give of their time to the hospital, said Connie Jamieson, head of human resources at the site. /This is an opportunity for us to recog- nife the fact that these people donate eir time to the community... that they come and work at the hospital on their own." Since 1979 volunteers have lent a hand to hospital staff, she said. "They work throughout the hospital...lightening the load for staff. A number of them work in rehabilitation, helping with physiotherapy which is great.
