Jeff Clarke cut the Chief lead to 3-2 early in the second, taking pass- es from Drummond and Bonneveld and splitting the defense to slide the puck under Ryan Hogan as he was being dragged down by a couple of enemy defenders. Coach Thornbury had words of praise for the way Mackie bounced back, calling him a "fierce competi- tor with a great attitude." Those key saves were all his mates needed as Bonneveld got his second short-handed marker at the 4:28 mark. Greg Blackburn fed him a long pass and he swooped in from the left side to slip a back-hand behind Hogan to tie the game once again. And it was Bonneveld who gave them the lead for the first time at 7:57, taking a great pass from Drummond and snapping the shot past Hogan from a sharp angle. The insurance came at 9:01 with newcomer Mike Clark re-directing a pass into the Chief net. Derek Tindall and Mike Hamilton got the assists and the entire line worked create the scoring opportunity.
