PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, January 12, 1999 - 15 "A Family Tradition for 133 Years" Trustee for Ajax sought Durham District School Board trustees are start- ing the year with a vacan- cy to fill. Ajax Trustee Darryl Blakley has tendered his resignation from the board effective Dec. 31, citing personal reasons. The rookie trustee has missed several meetings and did not attend the Jan. 4 meet- ing where plans to fill the vacancy were discussed. Trustees opted to put out a call for candidates, and appoint someone to fill the position. Several options were open to the board, accord- ing to Scugog trustee Bobbie Drew. "We could call a by-elec- tion, which would cost around $40,000," she said. "Or we can appoint. "We chose to advertise the position and appoint COLDWECLL BANKER (1 (07610131 (aA: 1a [RR {=F 114 from among the candi- dates." . Director of Education Grant Yeo said require- ments for candidates are quite basic. "One must be a Canadian citizen, who is 18 years of age," he said. "One must live in the region of Durham, not nec- essarily the Ajax commu- nity." The only change to eli- gibility comes from recent changes to the Education Act, said Mr. Yeo. "No employee, or spouse of an employee of the board may sit as a trustee under the new standards," he said. Those interested in the job, which pays an hono- rarium of $5,000 per year plus some expenses, can. contact board offices at 905-666-5500. 5 High St., Port Perry 985-7351 OPEN HOUSE Sunday, January 17, 1999 | a § bs Fi¥ £out : £5 2 The craftsmanship of yesteryear with todays amenities expound in this 3000 sq. ft. 1840s stone home, large family room plug studio, 3 car garage with workshop aren. hh acres, $359,900, to 4:00pm Uxbridge North East of YM RV, YS AIRWAY I RTL ANA do 905-985-7351 FOR DIRECTIONS, PPHS ONTARIO SCHOLARS RECOGNIZED 'Mindi Yake, Julianne Brownson, Lindsay Reid, Port Perry High School Ontario Scholars were Back row: Colin Laird, Julie Puckrin, Melinda recognized and recieved awards at the school's - Delorme, Chris Faulkner, Doug Short, Rodney commencement exercises recently.
