Hospital auxiliaries raise $20,000 with calendars By Jeff Mitchell Port Perry Star The auxiliaries serv- ing hospitals in Port Perry and Uxbridge are celebrating their most successful fundraising effort ever. Last Thursday (Jan. 28), members of both aux- iliaries gathered at Lakeridge Health in Port Perry to hold the first of what will be 12 monthly draws for prize winners who bought their 1999 lottery calendars. The calendars, which see winners chosen for each day of each month, were an enormously pop- ular fundraiser, said oo T-3 white per sq. (approx. 100 sq. ft.) ALSO ... Belbin - Sunderland Sis Sebean - Uxbridge Vern Feir - Uxbridge Ellen Cadeau of the Port Perry auxiliary. They were sold door-to-door in both communities begin- ning last October. The organizations began with a total of 3,000 calendars, which sold for $20 each. They managed to sell 2,990 of them in the effort, the first-ever cooperative fundraiser involving the two auxiliaries. "Each auxiliary is going to realize a profit of about $20,000 for each hospital, which will be put toward the purchase of much-needed equip- ment for both hospitals," said Mrs. Cadeau. "It's the largest fundraiser the auxiliaries have ever had." The nature of the pro- motion had a real appeal for folks, said Mrs. Cadeau. For $20, they bought a day-timer type pocket calendar, and had their name entered into a draw. At the end of each month, a name is drawn for each day. Daily prizes range from $30 to a jack- pot of $2,000, which will be drawn Dec. 31. Winners' names are put back into the draw after they're chosen, meaning lottery entrants have many more than one chance to win. The draws will be held each month, alternating between the Port Perry and Uxbridge hospitals. The remaining 10 cal- endars are still up for sale; five are on sale in auxiliary gift shops in both Port Perry and Uxbridge.
