"A Family Tradition for 133 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, February 9, 1999 - 19 lL ve SPORTS oo Cs aa lt i hier Tv A= -- 1 Van, Truck World skates past Monsma Electric 7-2 From Page 18 Bill Foote and Bill Van Camp to give Goreski's a 1-0 lead. The Roofers continued to attack offensively and their efforts resulted in a Doug Bronson goal assisted by Larry Pilkey and Rob Scott. Todd Healey was next to find the back of the cage for Goreski's after being nicely set up by Bill Foote and Bill Van Camp. Joe's was able to put one goal on the scoreboard as Dave Jackson came through late in the game from Bill Weisflock but Goreski's was able to hang on for the 3-1 victory. Van & Truck World 7 Monsma Electric 2 This game was all Van & Truck World as they blew out Monsma Electric 7-2 showing dominance from start to finish. Jay Adam led the way for Van " & Truck World with two goals and two assists, while Brad Menzies added one goal and four helpers for a five point game. Dave Buxcey also netted a pair of Van & Truck World goals, and adding singles were Brad Coppin and Ken Jeffrey. Picking up helpers in this one- sided affair were Brad Coppin with two, Mike Adam, Mark Jobb, Steve Stiles with a nice pass, Mike Geer and Ken Jeffrey. Finding the net for Monsma in a losing cause was Brad Meeking with a pair of goals. His first was from Brian Till and Rick Campbell, while his second closed out the scoring and it was set up by Rick Campbell and Brian Till. Coaching staff, key players expected to return for another try next year From Page 18 assistants Scott Pinkerton and Sam Thornbury are expected to return for the 1999-2000 campaign. While Sunday night's game against Bobcaygeon meant nothing in the standings for either team, 'the game was not without an exciting dimension. MoJack forward Adam Bonneveld needed to regis- ter nine points to win the Central Jr. C League scor- ing crown. And for a while it looked like he just might do it. The ModJack assistant cap- tain scored three times in the first period, and with his team mates trying to set him up for points, he could have had a couple more in those first 20 min- utes. However, he was held to just a single assist in the final two periods and finished the season with 65 points (35 goals, 30 assists) and four back of the Merchants Jeremy Farr. Late in the third, .Bonneveld was awarded a penalty shot but failed to get a shot off as he went for a back-hand deke and had the puck poke-checked away by the goalie. Bonneveld, who won the scoring title last year and is one of the most exciting players in the League, played his final game as a MoJack as he was an "over- ager" this season. Stating that this past season was a "learning experience for me, but at the expense of the team" coach Thornbury said he'll put the tough lessons to good use next year. Aside from fewer games 'to assess talent at the out- set, he said he will use more practise time to work on the defensive aspects of the game and the practises. will be "more structured." The MoJacks certainly have a great talent base to work from next season as Bonneveld is the only mem- ber of the squad lost to overage. Tom Chambers, Jeff Clarke and late arrival Shane Patrick will be eli- gible to play as 21 year olds next season. But the team is allowed to take only two, so if all three show up at camp, the club will have a tough choice to make. ¢ WE WISH TO DRAW YOUR ATTENTION TO THE FOLLOWING IN OUR CURRENT "BEST PRICES, BEST SALES" , FLYER.
