Port jumped on the scoreboard within a few seconds on a great breakaway shot by Wade Ritchie. Belleville: answered back with four goals, as the Port boys pounded the puck at the Belleville goalie who came up strong. Heading into the third period, deter- mination was obvious, with Brad Johnston scoring an awesome short- handed goal and then Scott Brownson scoring one. With less than a minute left on the clock, Reid McTaggart tied the game and we were into overtime. Excellent pressure by both sides made this overtime a thriller, with Port : popping in the winner on a great play by Bill Carr. Super netminding by Chris Loughlin. Assists for the five goals go to Mark Delaney, Bill, Chad Lance, Brad, Scott and Kam Cooper (two). A great effort by the entire team, including Joel Van Camp, Russ Brown, Matt Caldwell, Jon Sanders and Rob Taylor. Belleville were in Port Perry on Saturday night, and the Belleville goal- tender was spectacular, stopping all shots by our boys, despite being abso- lutely pelted with attempts to score all game. The visitors were lucky with a few shots, and went home with the win. Sunday night we returned to the Belleville barn for another round, and this time Belleville scored first with 3:34 remaining in period one. Port came right back on a nifty goal by Kam from Wade. Second period action netted Port another goal, from Aaron Chambers to Kam and shet in the net by Wade. The Port team was ready in the third, with end to end rushes, and Belleville tied the game at 10:20. Port's hard work in this period paid off, with Brad scoring unassisted with 1:25 left on the clock, for the win. Great job this game, espe- cially considering that Port played shorthanded for about 10 minutes of the third period. Very impressive goal- tending by Chris Monsma. Sharp defensive play be Reid, Aaron, John Burnett and Joel Thomson. The Belleville team returns this Wednesday night to Port Perry Arena for the fourth game of the series, set to begin at 8:30 p.m. Please come out to show your support of these local athletes and enjoy an evening of playoff hockey. Port Perry's Reid's Independent Atom 1 Predators advanced to the sec- ond round of OMHA playdowns with a first place finish in round robin play this week. The boys played first against Trenton, who had defeated the Predators twice and tied once in three previous games this season. Patrick Dunn played excellent goal, turning aside 17 shots and leading his team to a 6-0 victory. Keith Forbes opened the scoring with 2:51 left in the second period, with assists going to Tyler Cunningham and Justin Jimmo. Port Perry blew the game open in the second, scoring five times in the last four minutes. Tyler Cunningham and Jeff Durward scored once each, David Stewart netted two and Keith Forbes got his second of the game. On Jan. 26 the team travelled to Darlington to face the Clarington Toros, who had finished in fourth place in league play. With the confidence of having played an excellent game against Trenton, the team came out ready to go. This hard fought game was scoreless until Clarington finally put one past Pat Dunn with 11:36 to go in the second period. The lead didn't last long as Keith Forbes scored from Adam Farnley and Owen Penstone less than a minute later to tie the game. Dave Stewart scored from Kirk Stephens and Tyler Cunningham tal- lied from Keith Forbes to put Port ahead 3-1 at the end of two periods. In the third, Jake Jones was set up by Chris Charron and Tyler Cunningham scored from Owen Penstone on the power play to put the game away. Game three was two nights later, with Clarington coming north to play the rematch. Clarington started play- ing the body right away, but it didn't Predators on the prowl in playoff action as they prepare to face the Whitby Wildcats in Round 2 faze the Predators. Tyler Cunningham got the Reid's team on the board first, with help from linemates Keith Forbes and Owen Penstone. Clarington finally got things going in the second period, scoring three times to take the lead. Port Perry didn't let up and with just 23 seconds left in the period, Keith Forbes got his team to within one, scoring with assists from Dave Stewart and Owen Penstone. In the third, Port out shot the Toros 13-7 and put four goals into the net to sew up a 6-3 win. Tyler Cunningham completed his hat trick, Keith Forbes got his second of the game and Dave Stewart put his fourth of the playoffs in. Knowing they would advance to the next round, the Predators headed to Trenton on Saturday night to complete their four game round robin. In a game that saw chippy play from the home team, the Predators weren't as fortu- nate as in their previous games. Trenton opened the scoring with 14:21 left in the first period, followed by three from the visitors. Adam Farnley scored his first goal of the season with help from Dave Stewart and Jeff Campkin, then Keith Forbes from Tyler Cunningham and Owen Penstone, and Dave Stewart from Jared Olsen and Jake Pilkey put Port Perry ahead 3-1. Before the period was over, Trenton had put two past Trevor Algar and they added one more in the second period to win 4-3. Next up for Port Perry is Whitby. Come out and watch some exciting young hockey players at your arena. Reid's Independent Atom 1 Predators began their playoff adven- ture with a successful round robin series win. The Atom 1 team defeated Clarington and Trenton to dominate the series and advance to the next round.
