"A Family Tradition for 133 Years" PORT RERRY STAR - Tuesday, March 16, 1999 - 21 Music, entertainment to highlight the Pot of Gold dinner to be held « on ) March 26 at Burns Church During morning worship on Sunday, as part of the 150th . anniversary celebrations, Ruth Oliver shared some of the history of the Burns congregation, and read some of the minister's names who have served in this congrega- tion. The choir sang "The Old Rugged Cross." On Sunday, March 7 marked the 60th anniversary of the Ladies Bible Class, with a special service and reception following downstairs. Two beautiful flower arrangements were placed in the sanctuary of the church. Due to the inclement weather the previous day only a few visitors were there. The Kirk Guild served lovely refreshments and the church hail looked very festive with yellow and pink balloons and beautiful roses on each table. Bernice Gardner had the honour of cutting the anniversary cake. Pictures of past anniversaries were on display. We continue to meet.on the third Wednesday of each month. We meet at the home of Joan Knight on Wednesday after- noon of this week at 2 p.m. Next anniversary event is the 9" Florence Ashton "Pot of Gold" dinner to be held on Friday, March 26 at 6:30 p.m. at Burns Church with a variety of music and entertainment. Mrs. Blanche Beadle, a former resident of Ashburn, passed away at the Sunnycrest Nursing Home on Tuesday, March 9. Blanche and her husband Fred, with their two children Harvey and Shirley lived in Ashburn for many years. Fred was the village barber. Blanche was one of the founders of the Ladies Bible Class, having had a very keen interest in the group even after moving to Oshawa. Blanche was in her 96th year. The Spring Gospel Music Concert will be held on Sunday, April 18 at 7:3Q p.m. at Burns Church, featuring the mixed Gospel Music Quartet with soloist Joan Elliott. Offering and refresh- ments.
