Mr. Foote, who typically views fea- ture films in his role as a critic, said that while some aspects of doing a cri- tique on a documentary will be differ- ent, there. are fundamental elements of film making that are common to both genres. "Obviously you're not watching the acting," he said. "That goes by the wayside. But everything else is quite essential. The conditions under which the documentary was made also figure in the judging, said Mr. Foote. Jurists will consider the access film makers had to their subjects, and the budgets with which they worked. : Mr. Foote started watching movies last week, and will continue to do so until the festival in May. On May 7, adjudicators meet to discuss which films will win prizes. Most of the movies are from Canada, the U.S., and Britain. "I'm really honoured to have been chosen," he said of his role. Those who sign up for the course can look for- ward to learning the facts and fallacies surrounding weight loss diets, discover the truth about fat and fibre, learn how to take the confusion out of read- ing food labels on a guided supermarket tour, take part in a walking and light weight program and much much more.
