Mrs. Beatrice Walker of Regina, Saskatchewan is visiting her nephew, Gerald and Joyce Kelly and her sister-in-law Mrs. Audrey Gilmour of Lindsay for the next three weeks. While here in Ontario, she will be visit- ing several other relatives in the area. Last weekend a very successful Central Ontario Rabbit Show was held in Blackstock. Almost 500 rabbits were exhibited at the excellent show. There were 11 tables at the weekly euchre party on Tuesday evening with the following winners: Vivian Kidd, Grace Bassant, Ed Johnson, Lyle McMahon, Lois Lowery, Jean Van Camp and Stuart Dorrell. Draws were won by Jean Van Camp, Les Johnstone (two), Vivian Kidd, Wm. Dunn and Edna Manns. This week will be the annual Brooklin Spring Fair followed by the Millbrook's 150th fair next weekend. On a recent weekend, Nathan Alpe celebrated his 10th birthday by fish- ing. First he went with his uncles Larry Piper and Vic Hanc at Pigeon Lake where he caught a 42" muskie. Mom Patti Alpe, Emma and Nancy Bryans enjoyed fish and chips Hanc style with the Pipers and Hancs and several others. Later Nathan went fishing again with his friend, Patrick Wotten before a family birthday party at nana and grampa Bob's farm. Happy birth- day, Nathan. - The annual Cartwright High School formal held on Saturday evening at the Rec. Centre was well attended. The theme was "Enchanted Forest." The 1999 CHS Queen is Jada MacLeod with her princesses Lisa Bucking and Leslie Lamb. Adam Wahout and Adam Shore tied for the title of King with the princes as Darryl McClurg and Mike Laing. All in all a delightful evening. On Sunday a joyous family party was held in honour of Babe and Wilf Brown, Nancy Bryans' parents, to celebrate their 60th wedding anniver- sary. The entire Bryans family attended along with 100 relatives and friends. Congratulations on this important occa- sion. The Sunday Eucharist at St. John's was celebrat- ed using the 1549 Prayer Book Rite in recognition of the 450th anniversary of the introduction of the Book. of Common Prayer. Because a service conduct- ed using the full 1549 liturgy would have taken some three hours some portions were omitted and although the printed ser- vice booklet was written in Tudor English, modern English was used but the "thees and thouse." In Tudor times, there was lit- tle singing of hymns, indeed, almost all singing was done by Priest and Choir. However, we did want the congregation to get involved so, in default of 16th Century hymns, our hymns for this service were mostly chosen from the 18th Century. The other major diver- gence from church prac- tices in 1549 was of course, the roles played by some of the ladies of the Parish in the reading of lessons, singing in the choir and serving in the Sanctuary. But, even though we didn't do things exactly according to the original Book, this was a very interesting experience with some familiar prayers and some that most of us had never heard or said before (we don't believe any members of our congregation were around in those days). Father Hugh and choir director Catherine Corden are to be congratulated and thanked for their efforts in setting' up this service. At coffee time, after Sunday's service, Natasha Edgerton and Ruth Welham-Umphrey were saluted with musical birthday honours. Remember that Sunday, June 6, will be Rogation Sunday and the Eucharist will be celebrat- ed at the home of. Fred "and Cathy King. The ser- vice begins at 10 a.m. and will be followed by a pot luck picnic lunch. Those attending are asked to bring lawn chairs.
